Notice

The Bose Community Forum was launched at a time when robust online support was not available for Bose customers. Over the past several years we have added new online service channels that provide a more interactive and complete digital experience. Additionally, we have enhanced the My Bose Account capabilities to deliver a more personalized and self-service experience. As a result, Bose has made the decision to close Community Forum for Consumer electronics products on September 30th. The Bose Pro portion of the Community will still operate as usual.

Please visit our support homepage to experience one of our many other digital service channels or simply use your Community log-in credentials to sign in to your My Bose Account to view your orders and view support options.

Thank you to all who have contributed and benefited from interacting in our Community. We look forward to continuing to serve you online.

Bose 700 microphone on Ubuntu

Bose product name

Bose NC 700

Country

UK

Firmware Version

1.8.2-11524+e0f7590

App Version

4.4.6

What devices were you using that were affected and what version are they on (e.g. Samsung Galaxy S9 on Android 11, iPhone X on iOS14, etc.)
HP Omen 2020 laptop with Ubuntu 20.04

Detailed description of the issue and steps to reproduce

When I connect my headphones via Bluetooth on my laptop and connect to Zoom / Skype, in order to use the microphone I need to switch to HSP / HFP bluetooth profile. When I do that the quality of the audio drops, obviously people can hear me but the sound is lower in quality. When I want to listen to music and off from calls, I switch to A2DP and everything sounds awesome.

The same problem does not occur either on mobile or on Windows. So I have 2 questions:

- What does mobile phone or Windows do to make bidirectional bluetooth communication smoother, that is without switching to low quality audio? Or maybe it is still mono but they do something additional to suppress the low quality?

- Will purchasing Bose USB Link Bluetooth dongle help me? What does it do differently than the Bluetooth module on my laptop?

What environment do you experience the issue in? (e.g. noisy office, quiet kitchen, etc.)

bedroom

When did you start to experience the issue? Did it work correctly previously?

no

Any troubleshooting steps you took

Hey Rustam,

Thank you for your post and welcome!

The USB Link is designed to improve your connection rather than the quality. I don't think this will help with your issue.
