Bose Noise Cancelling 700 headphone - Noise cancelling inconsistencies

Bose product name: Bose Noise Cancelling Headphone 700

Country: Australia

Firmware Version: 1.8.2-11524+eOf7590

App Version: 4.2.4

What devices were you using that were affected and what version are they on: Google Pixel 3 XL with Android Version 11

Detailed description of the issue and steps to reproduce:

Noise cancelling is not working when its on low/medium volume.
I was travelling in train and i have set the noise cancelling level to 10 with volume level as 50%. With this setting i was literally able to hear all the voice and sounds outside which means noise cancelling wasn't working.
if i set the noise cancelling level to 10 and keep the volume as 100% then and then noise cancelling is working and in that setting i can't hear external voice/sounds etc.
Here is the issue:-
Noise cancelling level 10,Volume 50% - No Noise cancelling is happening and can hear all the external voice/sounds.

Noise cancelling level 10,Volume 100% - Noise cancelling is happening and can't hear all the external voice/sounds but then everybody around me can hear what i am listening and they do get disturbed.

Logically I can never have an experience of noise cancelling in this scenario.
I am not sure that this is how it works or its an defective product.

What environment do you experience the issue in?: In Train,At home and also in office

When did you start to experience the issue?: From Day One

Did it work correctly previously?: No

Any troubleshooting steps you took: I reset to factory settings and its still the same

anant.dabhi@gmail.com , this problem also started to surface for me ever since the autoupdate to firmware version 1.7.0, previously when mine's on version 1.3.1 it was the best noise cancelling experience. Unfortunately, @bose  has rejected our appeal to be able to downgrade the firmware and so far any firmware that is newer than version 1.3.1 has major issues but @bose is simply not taking any visible actions other than "feedback sent to engineering team", there's also issues being reported for year long don't seem to be fix at all.

If your headphone still able to be return/refund, please do so while you still can.

Re: Bose Noise Cancelling 700 headphone - Noise cancelling inconsistencies

Hey guys, thanks for posting in this discussion!

I am sorry that you both seem to be having an issue with the noise cancelling capabilities of your Noise Cancelling Headphones 700.

So active noise cancellation works by listening to the outside noises through microphones and then using the opposing frequencies to cancel out the noise. Increasing the volume of your audio will mask noise, but does not work the same as active noise canceling. The best way to test your ANC will be without any audio playing. If you increase it from 0-10, do you notice the sounds become quieter/cancelled?

For best practice, I'd recommend that you both reset your headphones by following these steps:

  1. Disconnect all cables from your headphones
  2. Connect the larger end of the USB charging cable to a wall charger or a computer that is powered on
  3. On the headphones, press and hold the Power/Bluetooth® button while connecting the smaller end of the USB cable to the right earcup. The Power LED should quickly blink twice
  4. Once connected, release the Power/Bluetooth button after two seconds.

Let me know the outcome of this.

Re: Bose Noise Cancelling 700 headphone - Noise cancelling inconsistencies

@Charlotte_Gthe noise cancelling from level 0-10 is still working, the major complains is that even at level 10 we can still hear environment sounds like engines if on public transportation. compared with

fw 1.3.1 which cancels out engine sounds mostly, any version after (1.7, 1.8.2) still have fair bit of remaining sound being pass thru at level 10.

Re: Bose Noise Cancelling 700 headphone - Noise cancelling inconsistencies

@Charlotte_G Honestly, it's time you guys stop tell us to simply reset the headphones.

There are plenty of messages in this board that tell it is not a solution.

I understand that you have to try something, but it's getting ridiculous.

Re: Bose Noise Cancelling 700 headphone - Noise cancelling inconsistencies

I have bought a brand new around 1 week back so i can return the product and ask for the refund.

I am facing this issue on brand new headphones so there is some problem.

I think its wise to return the product and ask for the refund.

I think there are some other good products as well available in the market so i can opt for that
