Headphones disconnect during call

My headphones connect to my phone, and I can even listen to voice-notes on WhatsApp, but then when I try to make a call the headphones disconnect for the call. ( The settings still say that they are connected, but the call uses the phone speaker and mic ). The headphones do start to work again after the call.

I would like to get more information to be able to help you out with this. What type of phone are you using? How do you have your headphones connected?  Is your phone up to date?
