Re: Noise Cancelling headphones 700 - Auto-off feature update

@bose

I have waited until the final day of my 30 day period to return with no response... in the box back to your return department my pair goes.

Really sad, because I think that they are well made otherwise. But this feature just doesn't work for me as a sound sleeper on planes.

Maybe you'll eventually give us the feature we want, and an actual timeline to implement?

As we've seen since the launch of the product, it doesn't seem like that's coming anytime soon and I have some long flights coming up.

Re: Noise Cancelling headphones 700 - Auto-off feature update

It's really a shame that Bose is obviously not able to resolve this bug (for me it's clearly a design bug) at all.

I am using Bose products for many years and especially as I'm sitting in airplanes almost every week, I was always very happy with NC headphones (QC20, QC35). Some time ago I decided to replace my QC35 but unfortunately it seems like those where my last Bose product.

I was always recommending Bose as a very customer oriented company with high quality products but obviously that's no longer valid.

Too bad that Bose forces me to chose another vendor for my new headphones.

Re: Noise Cancelling headphones 700 - Auto-off feature update

With my 700 headphones I use them for many things. The problem is you buy nice headphones with noise cancellation and then you can't use them when trying to meditate or listen to meditation music. The motion sensor always cuts them off which led me to all the threads here with the issues. We all understand how convenient the auto off is for battery life and is forgetting to cut them off but there should be an override to fix this issue. It would literally be a simple code to add to the next update to help us all out. If not we're going to have to go back to our old headphones and lose Bose. EDIT- this update will still not fix the problem long term as in an hour we will still end up in the same situation. Please just make it optional to have on or off. This is the reason we bought the Bose anyway.

Re: Noise Cancelling headphones 700 - Auto-off feature update

Bose, This has been going on for way too long now with no response that is worth anything. We are all waiting for a status update,  versus all of the previous responses that do not provide an answer to the question being asked.

What is the status of a new release and when can we expect an update?

As others mentioned, just disable the auto off function and provide us with an update so we can at least use them for more than a paperweight.

Re: Noise Cancelling headphones 700 - Auto-off feature update

I want to chime in to add another voice with the same complaint.   I was looking for a solution to the same problem.  How disappointing to find that one doesn't yet exist.

I listen to a meditation app when I go to sleep at night.  A few minutes in, I get startled awake with the "shut down" sound.  This is completely frustrating.  Every time the headphones shut down, I have to start the process of falling asleep all over again.  Please don't adjust the system to "an hour".  Then the headphones will wake me up in an hour instead of 10 minutes.  Please give a choice to turn the function on or off.

Also, as others have stated, it would be appreciated if you could give an estimate as to when this firmware update will take place.

Thank you.

Re: Noise Cancelling headphones 700 - Auto-off feature update

Well sadly it looks like Bose engineers have been working on a new color for these headphones. Soapstone! Just got the email today. Hope they get this issue fixed so those of us that have returned them will want to buy them again in ANY color!

Re: Noise Cancelling headphones 700 - Auto-off feature update

I read this forum and wasn't going to buy the headphones because I want to use them for sleeping. I kept reading the reviews about how wonderful they are and decided to buy a set and use my old QC15's for sleeping. The headphones are amazing - I especially like using them for long phone calls. The people I talk to say it sounds like I am speaking right into the phone. They sound terrific with music.

After several days of having the headphones I started to get angry that I had paid $430 (with tax) for a set of headphones I can only use sometimes. The longer I had them, the more angry I got. Solution to the problem? I sent them back for a refund. It is ridiculous to pay that kind of money for a set of headphones that decide FOR YOU when they will work.

I will gladly buy another set if Bose will fix this problem, unless I buy another brand in the meantime. I have been using Bose products since my first set of 300 speakers that I bought back in 1987. I have since owned bluetooth speakers, a couple sets of earbuds, a set of QC15 and a set of QC35 - which died and prompted me to get interested in the 700.

Come on Bose - can't you do something with the software or firmware so that we can decide when we want them to turn off? It would be better that they don't automatically turn off at all. If a person leaves them turned on and the battery runs down, so be it. They ARE rechargeable!

Re: Noise Cancelling headphones 700 - Auto-off feature update

Bose has made many fine products. I still have the original Bose 3-2-1 sound system for TV's-perhaps close to 20 years-and not a moments problem.

Unfortunately, the Bose NC 700 is not one of those fine products.

The auto-shutoff feature is what would be described as "a fatal flaw", a flaw that negates whatever else about the product may be acceptable, perhaps even exceptional.

Anything short of being able to totally disable it remains a fatal flaw.

I called the support number 5 times. I asked if I could exchange the NC 700 for the QC II 35s. The first agent told me a newly manufactured version of the NC 700 would "solve all your problems". Since there is no indication that this model has been re-engineered, I doubted it. After 4 more calls to the support center, I was connected to a "product specialist". She agreed to exchange the NC 700 for a QC 35 II s with the understanding that I would not get a refund for the $50 difference in cost. To me, that is better than the NC 700 becoming a paperweight. Looking at the Community postings, I may be exchanging 1 set of problems for another-but at least not one with the fatal flaw of auto shut-off. I do appreciate Bose's accommodation. However, I would never buy another Bose product on "faith" in the company to produce the finest product worth the premium cost. For me, it is close to how I have felt since the Dodgers left Brooklyn!
