Music plays outside of headphones when plugged in

When I plug my iPhone into my Bose35 headphones, the sound can be heard outside of the phones. Is this s problem with the headphone jack?

Thank you for reaching out, glad you did. Can you give an example of what you mean by " plays outside"? With the headphones on, can you hear any audio at all inside the earcups? 

Have you tested the headphones with another device?
