QC 35 II needs Alexa and Google Assistant update to support alarm functionality

I bought the fantastic QC 35 II to drown out my wife’s snoring.  Bose Sleepbuds will not be nearly sufficient, though they are well designed.

I want to use the QC 35 to get to sleep, but also need to hear my alarm to wake up!  I use the QC 35 with my iPhone XS, which runs the latest version of iOS.  Unfortunately, it is not possible to hear the iPhone’s alarm, as it does not transmit through the Bluetooth connection.  The QC 35 works so well, I can’t hear the alarm coming from the iPhone’s speaker.

Others have had this issue as well:

Here are approaches I have tried.  I turn on the QC 35, then I play ocean sounds in an app on my iPhone.  I then hear these in the QC 35.  Next, I do one of the following to set an alarm:

  • With Alexa—Press Action Button
I say, “Set alarm for 7 AM”
QC 35 says: “Alarms are not currently supported on this device”
Please consider a software update for this issue.

  • With Google Assistant-Press Action Button
I say, “Set alarm for 7 AM” QC 35 says: Done, your alarm’s set for 7 AM”
At 7 AM, the ocean sounds from my iOS sleep app are still playing
Google Assistant subdues the ocean sounds, and plays a 3 second alarm chime over them.
Since the alarm stops after 3 seconds, it’s not enough to wake me before the ocean sounds resume playing.

  • With Google Assistant-Press Action Button
I want to be woken up to a song, say “Thriller” by Michael Jackson.
I say, "Hey Google, set an alarm for 7 AM that plays Thriller”
QC 35 says, “I can’t do that on this on this device yet. I’ve gone ahead and set a standard alarm called Thriller for tomorrow at 6:00 AM”

This last approach would definitely work best for me, since the song would wake me up.  This should be supported on the QC 35 as it is on other devices:

Re: QC 35 II needs Alexa and Google Assistant update to support alarm functionality

Hi Chad_NE,

Thanks for suggestions and I'm gad you're enjoying the headset!

I will certainly forward this along to our development team to see if we can implement any of these ideas with a future update.
