QC20 crackling and Popping sounds

Hi
I bought QC20 headphones about 3 months ago to use with an Android phone while travelling. When I am on a bus, train or tram recently there is a crackling and popping noise when the noise cancelling is turned on. Indoors it's works however as I bought these for travelling they are a bit pointless if they only work indoors. Has anyone any ideas how to fix?

A slight popping noise is typical when powering on the noise canceling as the circuitry turns on. Does this occur on any other device?
