Re: QC30 for Communication

Hi Randy,

Thanks for joining the conversation. I'm sorry, I don't have any news to add. We're waiting for the units to come in from the field.

Please assess your QC30 as it is now and decide if it meets your needs. If it doesn't, please contact the local Bose outlet store where you got them to discuss your options.

Thanks,

ST

I recently purchased a set of Soundsport wireless headphones from Best Buy, and the battery life did not meet my needs. I then went to my local Bose outlet store and exchanged them towards a set of refurbished QC30's with a manufactured date of October 26th 2016.

Is there any word on a possible fix? If not, will I be able to return them for a full refund including my exchanged amount? I would hate to do this since otherwise they are outstanding, but if they will be unable to perform properly, as intended, in a common use case scenario I won't have much other choice.

Thanks,
Randy

Re: QC30 for communications

Hi is there an update on this?

I purchased a set of qc30s a few weeks ago and still have a few days left on the return period with the retailer.  Can this issue be fixed via a future update or is it a hardware issue with this model where it is constantly picking up unnecessary background sounds whilst a call is active?

If this is a hardware issue I will be returning them as I don't feel like being another statistic on this forum...

Very poor customer service on Bose's part to leave customers with headphones that are useless for calls given a 50 buck headset from any no named manufacturer are relatively useable in a noisy environment.

I have a number of earbuds, jaybirds, apple airpds, Nuheara and Jabra but none of them have this issue on calls.... Very poor form Bose.

Please update what's going or I will be returning my goods...

Unbearable Background Noise on calls with qc30... Is there a fix?

I really wish I found this forums and the multiple complaints regarding this issue...

Guys, is there a fix? Or is it a hardware issue that cannot be fixed? I'm still in my period to return my pair and my retailer has offered a replacement and extending the return period because they feel the problem will be fixed soon with an update.... Is this correct?

Would appreciate any feedback from owners with this model, thanks..

Re: QC30 for Communication

Update: Got a replacement, according to the date of manufacturing, its the june 2017 batch.

This is my 3rd replacement unit and i received it after waiting for 2 weeks. The mic is slightly functional, i would use it for quick 20 second calls when i am using the headphones. However I will not use it in my conferences.

I used it on a train, the low frequency sounds are not very audible during calls by the other party, however the higher frequencies are still amplified. Nearby voices and the flipping of my documents are amplified too. As compared to my previous QC30 which is impossible to call with, this is a little improvement as the other party is still able to hear me with some slight amplications. Samsung Stock earphones still work better for calls.

We don't have enough information to talk about next steps yet.

When we have more information, I'll write about it here and you will get an email notification.

EVERYONE: Until this gets resolved buy the Apple AirPods, they are awesome for phone calls etc.

@feysul I have seen this suggested by someone else as well, and decided to try a pair for myself a month or so ago.  I'm wondering:  do you use an iPhone?  I use an Android phone (OnePlus 3 currently), and found them underwhelming.  I'm wondering if when paired with an iPhone, if there is further leveraging of the iPhone's mics or something.  For me it worked fairly well but only up to a certain level of background noise, and once past that threshhold, my voice seemed to completely disappear.  You literally could not hear me at all.  Very strange.

I ended up returning them and trying a set of QC20's, which were better than the QC30's for calls but not quite what I was looking for due to the wires, and the music playback wasn't nearly as good.  In the end I've kept the QC30's for music and given up on them for calls for now, and am using a Plantronics Voyager Edge bluetooth earpiece instead.  It's the best of anything I have tried so far, and my voice can generally be heard loud and clear almost regardless of background noise, with the exception of sometimes on the commuter train it's a challenge, but mostly fine.  It's my go-to for now.  Compact, lightweight, comfortable in the ear, decent battery life, and not much more than 1/3 of the QC30 cost.  🙂

Re: QC30 for Communication

Hi,

Just purchased mine yesterday, same issues with call quality.

As all others I would like to voice my disappointment with the quality of this headphones, I regret so much not reading through this forum before.

After assessing quite, a lot of headphones, I end up with short list of QC30 and QC35, then chosen QC30 for being more easy to wear, such a mistake...

I'm still puzzled how come in none of the reviews from the "specialists" I have read, this issue is not mentioned once!

I will return them tomorrow, from what I have read it doesn't seems that a solution will come soon.

Such a disappointing product!

Re: QC30 for Communication

@ST - Hearphones

I bought my qc30 about 10 months back (Sep'16 mfg) and have used it primarily for listening to music. They are just great for listening to music and especially whilst travelling they are superb with the noise cancellation; Bose team has nailed it on this front. Now with that out of the way … I discovered the sub-par mic quality issue about 8 months back. I have since gathered the courage to use it for calls a multiple times, unfortunately without success; it struggles to keep up in a quite environment where the person at the other end says I sound 'far', and in a noisy environment it completely fails to deliver, even compared to standard wired headphones. The background noise is highly amplified to the person at the other end of the call.

Whilst I have to, and I am sure many others do too, commend your team at delivering an awesome music noise cancellation headphones Smiley Happy but it simply does not work in the communications department Man Frustrated ; hasn’t worked anytime for me. It’s like delivering a full course meal experience nearly perfect and finishing it off with a really really (twice by intent!) bad coffee to ruin a wholesome experience … just doesn’t sound ‘Bose’ like. Not what Bose customers are used to. I trusted Bose to fix (not ‘acknowledge’ ok; but ‘fix’ yes) this a long time back … at least a couple of firmware upgrades back … but the Bose engineers just seem to be fish out of water on this one … and now I have to run to the service centre for what … the rubber peeling off on the neckband … really … frankly disheartening and frustrating for a first time Bose customer like me.

I had hoped for a very different experience of owning a ‘Bose’ product; a better product experience, a better ownership experience ... should  I still be hopeful ? My confidence in Bose stands shaken after going through this thread (and earlier threads on the same issue) ... your team should be doing a lot more in a lot less time to restore the damage they have caused to the ‘Bose’ brand because of this ‘incessant’ issue …

Re: QC30 for Communication

Wow, this is frustrating. I echo Gator Tim's feedback 100%. I too wish I had known this was a wide spread problem, and not just me thinking I was plain stupid. Had I known and was still within the return window I would have returned these in a heart beat. It's as if $300+ is looked at like chump change by  Bose.  Where is the update here?  If there's no update to fix, I think you owe your customers a full refund.
