Does the QuietComfort 35 II support Hi-Res Audio players?

Thanks.

Hi Pilp,

Thanks for your post and welcome to the community.

This will depend on the source that you are attempting to play.

Thanks for updating me on this @pilp,

What are you planning to listen to via the headphones?

Re: QuietComfort 35 II Hi-Res Audio

I’m planning to listen to 192khz/24bit and DSD material. Can the Bose QC35II handle it or is it incompatible?

Re: QuietComfort 35 II Hi-Res Audio

Hi Hector,

In your response you said “this will work”. But I’m wondering if the headphones will be a limiting factor or not. For example, a 4K player, connected to a 1080 HDTV will “work” but the HDTV will be a limiting factor, and the playback experience would obviously be much better on a 4K TV. So in the same sense, will the Bose QC35 headphones be a limiting factor when playing 24/96 or 24/192 music from a hi res audio device?

Thanks,
Muji

Re: QuietComfort 35 II Hi-Res Audio

Hi @Muji,

Apologies for any confusion caused.

The QC35 II headphones primarily use the AAC and SBC formats, which in of themselves do not support 24/96 or 24/192 audio.

What was meant by @Hector_B here is that the headphones will still play this audio, but this will be playing at a quality that these codecs support.

In direct answer to your question, the QC35 II headphones are acting as a limiting factor if the source of audio tries to play in this format, and this will play at the highest supported rate for the headphones.

With that said, I would still like to note that this does not mean that the QC35 II play at a poor or low quality of audio, and would recommend that you listen to/trial these at a store to ensure that you are always happy with the quality of our products and that you are satisfied with your purchase!

Please get back to me if you have any questions at all, and I hope this helps explain this!

Re: QuietComfort 35 II Hi-Res Audio

Hi Liam,

Thanks a lot for clarifying that.

Just one more question. I own a pair of the QC 35 (the first version; not II). If I want to play CD quality (16 bit 44.1kHz) music from a hi res audio player through my QC 35 first version (not II), will the headphones still be a limiting factor?

Thanks,

Muji

Re: QuietComfort 35 II Hi-Res Audio

Hi again,

No problem, I'd be happy to clarify this for you.

The QC35 I and II use the same audio codecs (SBC and AAC), and therefore support the same frequencies.

The SBC format is capable of playing CD quality at 16bit/44.1kHz, meaning that this will not limit your audio quality if you are using this format.

I hope this helps, and as always, please let me know if you have any questions!
