iOS 13 issues with Hearphones App?

Wife and I both got new phones running iOS 13, and we are both finding it difficult to keep our Hearphones connected to the app.  I can get them talking, control the world volume and other settings, but once I turn the Hearphones off (i.e., for the night), the connection is gone and when turning them back on I have to start all over again to get connectivity back.

I have the problem with my Hearphones and my phone, she has the same problem with her own Hearphones and her own phone.

It stays "paired" for the purpose of listening or phone calls, but I lose the ability to control the Hearphones through software.

I cleared the Hearphones connection list, but that didn't help.

Updating iOS to 13.1.1 did not help, but re-installing the app fixed everything.  Yea!  Thanks for your help.

One more thing - it immediately disconnects from the phone if I try to open any of the settings behind the gear icon, such as "connection list".

Hi jefferyl,

Thanks for writing.

I'm sorry you're having problem running iOS13 with the Bose Connect app.

Let me investigate at this end.  It may take a few days to get some more information.

Thanks,

ST

Re: iOS 13 issues with Hearphones App?

Hi again jefferyl,

What version of the Bose Hear app are you running?

Have you installed IOS 13.1.1

I just installed iPadOS 13.1.1 on my iPad and Bose Hear version 1.5 is running fine.

Re: iOS 13 issues with Hearphones App?

I am at 13.1 (17A844), updated on Tuesday and that's what I got.
I see 13.1.1 is available now and am updating ...

Bose Hear is at 1.5.0.

I'll let you know if 13.1.1 is better.  My fear is that it is something to do with the name being the same (came over with the brain transplant from the old phone) but the BlueTooth hardware address is different.

Hi jefferyl,

Thanks for the insight "My fear is that it is something to do with the name being the same (came over with the brain transplant from the old phone) but the BlueTooth hardware address is different."

If the update to 13.1.1 doesn't improve things, try uninstalling the Bose Hear app, and then installing it again.

Please come back and tell us if either step helps.

Thanks,

ST

IOS 13.1.3 address the issue.

Re: iOS 13 issues with Hearphones App?

For those reading along.

If you have a problem with the Bose Hear app not connecting to your Apple phone or iPad, running iOS 13.x or iPadOS 13.x

Please check your device

  • Settings
    • Privacy
      • Bluetooth
        • Ensure the Bose Hear app has permission to use Bluetooth

I found some background about the issue - it's the result of a new privacy feature in IOS 13.

Here’s why so many apps are asking to use Bluetooth on iOS 13

Also, there are some bug fixes in iOS 13.1.3 and iPadOS 13.1.3. See

Apple releases iOS 13.1.3 and iPadOS 13.1.3 with lots of bug fixes

Re: iOS 13 issues with Hearphones App?

I don’t think the problem is connecting, the issue is staying connected.

So you pair and connect, chose your desired mode.  App is left running in background. Say about a half hour later you want to change modes. You go back to the app and find you have to reload it to change modes, frustrating.

So the only way around this I know of is to add the app to widgets, doing this works most of the time.  I am currently checking the latest version of iOS to see if there is any improvements.
