eARC capable of accepting HDMI video thru optical input?

New Soundbar 700 doesn’t have extra HDMI input like Soundtouch 300 did. But I was told that with new eARC, now you can get HDMI video inputs from various sources (using a splitter) just by outputting that to an optical cable onto soundbar 700.
I thought optical cable is only for sound and never video.

Is this true? Because I have a projector that doesn’t support ARC and I have 4 multiple sources I want to know if what I heard is true by enabling my 4 sources be visible on a projector with audio passing through.
(4 sources HDMI -> splitter -> optical cable -> soundbar 700 -> hdmi out to projector)

Nevermind...Looked like I was misinformed.

Re: eARC capable of accepting HDMI video thru optical input?

Hello Leo,

Thanks for getting in contact!

I'm glad to hear that you have confirmed this - Optical cables are designed, as you state, purely for audio, whilst an ARC or eARC connection requires a port specific for this, and will transport video through while acting as the Audio Return Channel.

Hope this confirms your suspicions!

Liam
