Acoustimass 10 series 2

Bose product name Acoustimass 10 series 2

Country UK

I have aquired the above speaker system and  and have not yet bought a receiver. All 5.1 receivers I have looked at so far have L-C-R  SL-SR outputs plus seperate line level sub output. Since the acoustimas module is a pasive one, I need advice on how to conect to current receivers plus any recommendations for suitable receivers. Hope someone with experience can help, many thanks, Ianmf

@Ianmf

Additionally and key:

Speaker setting at receiver
Left and Right Front Center - Large
Left and Right Surround - Large

LFE (low frequency effects) - On

Subwoofer - Off
Crossover frequency 200Hz

This will allow the AM10 to use its internal crossovers to sort out the LFE channel coming from your Dolby Digital receiver correctly.

Re: Acoustimass 10 series 2

Thanks for answering and the link, I do have the owners guide, am I right in thinking that on any 5.1 receiver, I just use L-C-R plus SR - SL outputs and ignore receiver sub outputs/zone outputs? I tried Bose technical support but they are not operating currently here due to COVID shutdown. Regards, Ianmf

Re: Acoustimass 10 series 2

Yes, read the manual.  There is no subwoofer output with that older Acoustimass 10.

"Connect the Acoustimass module to the receiver
Use the 20 foot (6 m) cable with five pairs of wires to connect the Acoustimass module to
your surround-sound receiver.
1. Match the wire labels to the SPEAKER OUTPUT labels on the receiver:
a. RIGHT wires go to the Right Front SPEAKER OUTPUT connections.
b. CENTER wires go to the Center SPEAKER OUTPUT connections.
c. LEFT wires go to the Left Front SPEAKER OUTPUT connections.
d. RIGHT SURROUND wires to the Right Surround (rear) SPEAKER OUTPUT connections.
e. LEFT SURROUND wires go to the Left Surround (rear) SPEAKER OUTPUT connections.
2. Match the polarity on the receiver. Connect the wire pairs in phase (+ to + and – to –).
a. Attach each marked wire (+) to the appropriate positive (+) terminal.
b. Attach each plain wire (–) to the appropriate negative (–) terminal.
3. At the Acoustimass module, check to make sure all RCA connectors are firmly inserted
into the proper INPUT FROM RECEIVER OR AMPLIFIER jacks.
Note: "Front" speakers may also be called "Main", "A", or "1" by some receiver manufacturers.
"Surround" speakers may be called "Rear".
CAUTION: Do not connect the Acoustimass module directly to your television unless the
television provides surround decoding circuitry and amplified outputs for all channels."
