Connect 8 ohm speakers to 4 ohm receiver

Country USA

Firmware Version

App Version

What devices were you using that were affected and what version are they on (e.g. Samsung Galaxy S9 on Android 11, iPhone X on iOS14, etc.)

Sony STR K740P Receiver

Detailed description of the issue and steps to reproduce

The impedance of speakers is 8 ohm and for the Sony receiver is 4 ohm

What environment do you experience the issue in? (e.g. noisy office, quiet kitchen, etc.)

Sound is higher pitch and virtually no bass!

When did you start to experience the issue? Did it work correctly previously?

The system was working perfect in more than 20 years. After my old receiver is dead, I try to connect to another one.

Any troubleshooting steps you took

I've tried to change set up as instructed on the receiver's manual but still no luck! I've got an advice to connect an 8 ohm power resistor in parallel with each speaker to make them 4 ohm but I'm not sure if it is a good solution! Please help me to solve this problem!

Re: Connect 8 ohm speakers to 4 ohm receiver

Hey Wayne P,

Thanks for reaching out today and welcome to the Bose Community Forums.

I would love to assist you in getting this issue resolved, however, I really would need to know which specific system you have. You can use this page here to type in the serial number of your system. This begins with SN and will be on the label either at the bottom or on the back of the system. This will then tell you the specific name of your device. I very much look forward to your response.
