Remote for Bose AV38 not working after new remote and replaced IR sensor

Hi there

I have a Lifestyle AV38. I bought it second hand without a remote.

Since then I purchased on of those universal remotes that was supposed to be preprogrammed, but no joy.

So I purchased a proper second hand BOSE remote for my system. It is an RC38T1-27.

All 8 dipswitches in the battery compartment are switch to the down position (pushed down towards the bottom of the remote control).

New batteries, no luck. Tried reprogramming by holding ENTER while it's off and pushing some buttons, not luck. Note when I hold ENTER when it's off, the HOUSE CODE appears with 4 blocks in the bottom position I believe.

I thought it might be the IR sensor, so I ordered a replacement. I'm handy with electronic bits and was able to replace the old one myself. Then plugged it back in, went through the steps above and still no luck.

I then tried the universal remote and that doesn't work either.

I suppose one possibility I can think of is something wrong with the motherboard or pins for the IR sensor plug.

Any suggestions on what I can try next?

Thanks

Matt

I got this from (Tony - Community Support) and it works!!! Good Luck...

With the system off, press and hold the Enter button on the media center
Press the Store button until "Flash Commit" appears on the media center display
Release the Enter button
Press the Volume Up arrow

After that I would recommend re-associating the remote to the console:

Turn the Lifestyle system off
Hold the remote near the media center
Lift the front panel cover on the media center
Press and hold the Enter button on the media center. The words "House Code" followed by four squares will appear in the display.
While continuing to press the Enter button, press any button on the remote
The words "New House Code" will appear in the display and the squares in the display will match the position of the first four switches on the back of the remote
Release the Enter button
Verify the remote works

Re: Remote for Bose AV38 not working after new remote and replaced IR sensor

I don't know if this will help, but may point you in the right direction.

The Lifestyle remotes tend to use RF remotes, hence the universal one not working, and why replacing the IR transmitter didn't either (The IR transmitter is for controlling the attached TV, BD player etc).

I think you were on the right track with the house codes, here are the precise intructions (hopefully it works for you):

Using the remote control:
1. Open the remote control battery cover and locate the miniature switches
(Figure 26 on page 53).
2. Move one or more of switches 1, 2, 3, or 4 in the opposite direction from its current
setting. Use a paper clip, ball point pen, or similar object.
Note: DO NOT change any other switch settings. Moving other switches may disable your
remote control.
3. Replace the battery cover.

Using the media center:
1. Lift the media center door and press the All Off button.
2. Press and hold the Enter button. Your current house code will appear in the media center
display window in the form of four rectangles, which represent the positions of switches
1 through 4:

3. While holding the Enter button, press any button on the remote control.
The media center displays the new house code, which confirms its recognition of the
new code:

4. Release the Enter button. The system remains off.
5. If you have additional remote controls, change the switches to match those of the first
remote control by following steps 1-3 above. You do not need to repeat steps 4-5.

Re: Remote for Bose AV38 not working after new remote and replaced IR sensor

Hi Morlock

Thank you very much.

I had already gone through all the steps for reprogramming the remote for the unit and no joy, but you have caught my attention with one comment.

You said to not touch dipswitches 5-9, though I already did that some time ago when experimenting. If having the dips in the wrong position could affect the functioning of the remote, that could be it.

Any idea what dipswitches 5-9 should be set to ?

All the best, appreciated

Matt
