All Bose portable devices need a source, with no space to download anything to. So you would still need a phone/tablet/ipod.
The only waterproof speaker is the Micro, which is a bit more "active" orientated. So you can go canoeing and strap it to the paddle, hiking and clip it to your belt. To me it doesn't have the dispersion for an end of night campfire.
Revolves and Portable Home Speakers are both weatherproof, so as long as you don't immerse it in water should be fine, and they are more enjoyable for larger areas.
