Adding a l1 compact

Hi, I,m a vocalist / electric guitarist, using backing trax thro  a L1 Model 2 With B2 subwoofer and tonematch.

I,ve been offered a L1 Compact from a friend who is retiring soon . Question is would it be possible to use the compact along with  the L1 Model 2 ?.

There is 1 venue i play at that is bigger than the rest. (250 +) and thought i could use them both ( one at either side ) if possible. Thanks for any input.

Re: Adding a l1 compact

Hi weeo!

You could indeed use the L1 Compact as an additional speaker with the L1 Model II. If you're using one of the ToneMatch mixers, you can connect the master output to the L1 model II and the AUX output to the L1 Compact, or vice versa.

Alternatively, you can connect the master of the ToneMatch mixer to the input on the L1 Compact system, then use the Compact's line output  (bottom right in the pic below) to connect to the L1 model II.

Hope this helps!

The Answer to this would be yes as stated by Dylan_R  in his post:

You could indeed use the L1 Compact as an additional speaker with the L1 Model II. If you're using one of the ToneMatch mixers, you can connect the master output to the L1 model II and the AUX output to the L1 Compact, or vice versa.

If you're using a T1 or a T4S the better way of doing this (in my opinion) would be to use the master out to the Compact's channel2 input (set to line) as the aux doesn't have the reverb signal. The Model 2 is connected anyway with the tonematch cable. The end volume (or volume mix if you will) of the Compact would have to be adjusted using the volume knob of the Compact's channel 2.

Alternatively, you can connect the master of the ToneMatch mixer to the input on the L1 Compact system, then use the Compact's line output  (bottom right in the pic below) to connect to the L1 model II.

This would also work, although as I said above, my preferred way when using a T1 or a T4S would be as I've already stated above.

My view on using a Compact in the way you envisage would be that I can't see any advantage in doing so. If fact I can see one big disadvantage.

First of all the disadvantage: By connecting the Compact to the signal chain you would effectively be increasing the chance of feedback as the Compact is another set of speakers carrying the same signal as the Model II.

My thoughts on what you envisage with the Compact are:

As the Model II is capable of transporting the sound much further than the Compact I can't see there being any advantage in using both units in fairly close proximity. It would be different if you're wanting to provide sound for maybe an L-shaped room or maybe another room where the audience may also be. This would make sense.

I personally own a Model II and a Compact (+ 3 x T1). I use the Model II for larger or louder gigs, and the Compact for smaller ones, or where I don't need the advantages of what the Model II has to offer.

Des this help in any way.

Tony

Re: Adding a l1 compact

Thanks Tony that makes a lot of sense and i think i'll only use the compact at some of the smaller venues i play at. I haven't been able to try anything out because all the clubs are still closed to all music.

Thanks to all for your kind help
