Bluetooth not reconnecting

Hi, since running firmware version 7.1.7 and now 7.1.8 the speaker does not autoconnect to my devices (like smartphone) anymore.

I also have issues reconnecting it manually, I have to turn off the speaker sometimes or unpair to make it finally happen. I tried Support and the battery removal tip, but without success. Bose App doesn't help too.

Other bluetooth devices like Jabra or QC35 reconnect to my smartphone automatically so I think it is the speaker. Sleep mode is off.

Any idea how to troubleshoot this?

On your Bluetooth device please:

  • Uninstall the Bose Connect app
  • Go to Settings, Bluetooth and 'forget' the S1 Pro

On the S1 Pro:

  • Press and hold the Bluetooth button for about 10 seconds. The Bluetooth light will go dark. This clears the Bluetooth device list.

Pair Your Device to the S1 Pro

  • Turn off all other nearby Bluetooth devices or disable their Bluetooth functionality
  • Disconnect anything connected to the speaker's aux jack
  • Make sure that your speaker is in discoverable mode. Press and hold the Bluetooth button for about 3 seconds until the S1 Pro Bluetooth indicator begins flashing white
  • Make sure that Bluetooth is turned ON on your device. This is typically done in the device’s settings menu
  • Open your device's Bluetooth settings menu and make sure that the Bose speaker is selected as the paired device. If you don't see the speaker on your device, choose "search" or "scan" from the device's Bluetooth menu
  • Try moving your device closer to the speaker. The Bluetooth range is about 30 feet. Range is reduced when interference is present, like walls or multiple Bluetooth devices in the same area

Does that help?

Re: Bluetooth not reconnecting

Great steps, thank you for helping me! Tried them as stated, it did not help.

Before the update I was able to walk in the room with Bose QC35, when I took them off the Bose S1 Pro already connected and played the same Bluetooth audio seamless from the Android device.

I noticed having 2 Bluetooth items, where I can only connect to the second line item in the image. Not sure how it was before the firmware update.

Is the older firmware available somewhere? Any ideas left?

In firmware version 7.1.5 (January 2020), there were updates to Bluetooth security.  As a result, the behavior you described above is no longer possible, but while your device is connected to the S1 Pro, it is more secure than before.

To initiate a new Bluetooth streaming connection from the Android device stop/start Bluetooth or using the Bose Connect app on the Android device.

This is a peculiarity in Android. It shows the same device twice, but you can only connect to the Bose S1 Pro. Please ignore the LE-Bose S1 Pro. You can't connect to the LE version.

Is the older firmware available somewhere? Any ideas left?

I'm sorry, you can't revert to a previous version of the firmware.

Re: Bluetooth not reconnecting

Thank you for the honest reply.

This is a major step back for me, I will try to buy 2 speakers with older firmware and return mine, since this change is a severe feature cut.

I also couldn't prevent it since it was not mentioned that clear. The phone support was not informed about this. I noticed the service micro USB port but since there is no older firmware versions available, I cannot do anything.

Re: Bluetooth not reconnecting

How do people deal with Bluetooth not reconnecting daily?

It's such a terrible experience. Tested so many Notebooks, Phones, Tablets now, it's everywhere the same, I have to restart these S1 Pro multiple times, and no Firmware upgrade or downgrade possible.

Re: Bluetooth not reconnecting

I solved it by googeling bosefirmware downgrade and some invasive steps.

Also by downgrading solved the degraded QC35 performance.

What a garbage, Bose doesn't need this kind of sly behaviour.

This will definetly impact recommendations and next choices.
