Bose L1 Pro 16 High Pitched Noise

Hello,

I'm wanting to purchase an L1 Pro 16 for my Acoustic Solo Gigs.  I've read and heard reviews that there is a high pitched noise that cannot be turned off and that its very annoying.  Please advise.  Is this an issue with all Bose L1 Pro 16's.  I've heard reviews that the L1 Pro 32 does not have the same issue.  Anyone experience this issue?

Many thanks in advance,

Gary

Re: Bose L1 Pro 16 High Pitched Noise

I just purchased two of these and yes there is a noise.  I wouldn't describe is a  high pitch noise but more of a hiss.  I use these with a mixer and found that if I turn the volume down to about 3 on the speakers and raise the volume of the mixer the noise is not very noticeable.  I still get plenty of volume.  I heard about this issue also and decided to go ahead with the purchase. I haven't tried them on a gig yet and won't until the beginning of next month.  If it becomes a problem, I will most likely return them.  Hope this helps.

Walt, Thanks for taking time to reply.  I would like this system to work very much.  I'm wondering if ALL the issues have been worked out.

Re: Bose L1 Pro 16 High Pitched Noise

I sent emails to support and sales as suggested by a Bose moderator 4 days ago.  I have not received a response to my questions and concerns as of this post.

Hi WaltR, I am sorry to hear of your experience.

To my knowledge Bose does not have an email support channel and this may be the reason you have not had any response.

I should not have used the term "email".  It was a online form that I filled out.  One for support and the other for sales.  That was a week ago.

@WaltR

Hi Walt,

Thanks for your reply. Are you able to confirm which country you're based in (just to be sure), and do you have a link to the forms that you filled in? Then I can look into this for you.

In terms of the L1 Pro 16, generally it is a good idea to turn the mixer up quite loud and the speakers down (rather than the other way round), in order to prevent any additional, unwanted noise from coming out at the end of the signal chain. This is a process known as "gain-staging".

Also, as a live musician myself I once owned two [non-Bose] speakers for live gigs, and though they did hiss in a quiet room, this became inaudible as soon as I was playing live in a 50-100 capacity venue with people 🙂

I hope that information helps. Let me know if you require any further help!

Best wishes

Re: Bose L1 Pro 16 High Pitched Noise

I can confirm that the high pitch noise exists and it is annoying. It’s not a hiss. It’s a high pitched, constant noise. I bought a Pro 16 unit a month ago and had to send it back for replacement. And the replacement also has this noise. The sound occurs as soon as the unit is powered on. It doesn’t matter if anything is connected. The noise occurs regardless.  I’ve plugged in my acoustic (which then produces a low hum, like a ground loop), a microphone, connected my phone via Bluetooth... the noise is still there. When nothing is connected and all channels are muted, the sound is still there. And it’s annoying. Lest anyone want to blame it on tinnitus (I’ve seen some try to discredit this using the “it’s probably all in your head” nonsense) I turned both units on in a room of 11-15 people. They all heard the noise. And didn’t like it.
So, yes, the high pitched noise is a thing and it’s frustrating as heck.
For what it’s worth, this doesn’t affect the sound quality. This thing sounds AMAZING. If you can get past the noise, you’re all set.

Re: Bose L1 Pro 16 High Pitched Noise

Hi did you try to replace your input cable?  IF both systems had the issue then there is a good chance that the issue was not the L1 unit?  I have ad issues with cables in the past.
