Re: L1 Model II with new T8S

Hi Chuckm,

ST.I was going over all of our notes over the weekend. If I am right I won't be able to connect both sticks digitally to the 8S as outlined in the manual. Just analog, right?

Yes, the outputs on the T8S are analog.

Bose engineered all the ToneMatch mixers (T1®, T4S, T8S) to offer the same excellent quality audio whether you use the ToneMatch cable (T1®, T4S) or a balanced cable for audio (T8S).

Re: L1 Model II with new T8S

I received the new T8S today and am being careful to ensure I have it connected properly.

First thing I noticed was there are not instructions regarding connecting to the L1 Model II. The TM1 was pretty straight forward but the 8 is entirely new.

  1. I have two sticks so I assume they are connected to R&L out of the T8. But where are they connected to the power stand using XLR
  2. I use a vocal harmonizer that I have been running through Preamp 1 on the T1 and using CH 2 for mix. I assume I now should use one of the Aux’s on the T8
  3. My keyboard is out of L&R out of the keyboard into Ch 4&5 of the T1. I assume that I must now use 2 channels on the T8

Let’s start with these Q’s and see how things go. Thanks

There are two 1/4 inch Tip-Ring-Sleeve outputs - use balanced 1/4 inch jack Tip-Ring-Sleeve cables to connect to the Model II Power Stands

Yes.

Use the Aux Inputs - Channels 9/10

Re: L1 Model II with new T8S

Using Ch 9-10 for the keyboard is contingent on my not using any effects, right? I do use light compression from the mixer for the keyboard. I also use reverb for all the channels but not necessary. Thanks

Re: L1 Model II with new T8S

Hi there !

If you normally ie some Tonematch  T1 effects on your keyboards, you might be best plugging your keyboard into 2 channels (eg. Ch 1&2) of the T8S.

If you need 8 other channels for other things and/or can survive without reverbof compression on your keyboard, perhaps plug your keyboard into Aux 1&2.

Remember though, if you need lots of channels but still want the reverb & compression on your keyboard, plug the keyboard in Ch 1&2 of your new T8S, then you can use your original T1 Tonematch (if you are keeping it), plugging it into Aux 1 channel of the T8S - so then you will have Ch’s 3-8 of the T8S free PLUS all the T1 channels (don’t plug in any stuff you want in stereo, into the T1 though, as that can’t give stereo).

How many channels DO you need ??

Re: L1 Model II with new T8S

4 at minimum if using 9-10 for keyboard. Extra's are for other players who set in time to time.

Aha - I've always relied on the keyboard to provide all the processing required. That's why I didn't consider that you'd want to use effects or compression. Yes, if you want to use effects, compression, or reverb, you'll need to use channels 1 through 8. I can't recall. Are you running your keyboard in stereo across your L1®s? If not, then you can save a channel by running mono out of the keyboard to a single channel on the T8S.

Re: L1 Model II with new T8S

Thanks ST. This time with the new T8 I think I'll try using the keyboard without compression. I still like to use Reverb Type so that could be an issue because when using that feature it automatically goes to all channels, at least it does on the T1.

I am moving everything down to a larger space this Friday and my "engineer" friend and I are going to put the T8 through it's paces. In the larger space we can open things up with more volume, two sticks, etc. I'm sure there will be questions. Thanks again. (****, I can't believe I'm 77 years old and still doing this stuff).

Re: L1 Model II with new T8S

Hi again,

As I'm 47yrs old, I hope me and my T8S (and L1mkII and 2xB1's, and our two T1's) are still going strong in 30years, let alone more !
By then, my trio band mates will be 101yrs old, and 52yrs old !!!

Re: L1 Model II with new T8S

My guitar playing friend who sets in periodically is 75. But remember we are playing music from the 50's, 60's & 70's which is what we grew up with. So when we play in the Assisted Living Centers all of our listeners are our age (+ a little older). So they remember. Plus no chance of a barroom fight and getting our equipment bashed. Keep playing music! You may get older with age, but not in spirit.
