L1 as a Bass Rig
Hi ...again. Am new to the Bose community but am so thrillled with my new S1pro that I guess you can say I am sipping the cool aid.
I am a bass player..professionally (*yes, I actually do make a living doing this!). I am looking to replace my "big rig" (Bag End Cabs, Hafler or Crest or pwr amps) with something newer and more portable (its at the point now I am all about small easy to move stuff...) and am considering a L1 system. So, I would be interested in hearing any comment s and suggestions from bassists who might be using L1s. Is the L1 series 2 better than series 1 for bass? B1 or B2?...the B2s seems to have positive feedback but are heavy? Multiple B1 moudules with packlight amp?
Portability and small onstage footprint are very high considerations as the club stages here in New Orelans are quite small. Speed of assmebly is also a major consideration. As is volume, but I really am not interested in pursuing the traditional room quaking kind of levels commonly associated with bass amplification. Tone trumps volume everytime. Dealing with low frenquencies most of my life has taught me quite a bit about the effects environment and omidierctional qualities of bass sounds have, as well a some corrabative facts as to the direct/reflective qualities to those sounds (which lights my interest in bose products).
It seems I have forever been dissappointed in bass amps...for all the usual reasons..big, heavy, too boomy on stage yet so easily swallowed up my loud gtrs. There are valid points to the traditional philosphy which points that the instrument and amp work in tandem as a single instrument (something which gtrists and their adored tube amps have adhered to forever) to make tone. And there is much praise for the sound of a P Bass into a SVT. Yet, my basses, a cpl of wonderful Rick Turner semi-acoustic...or "amplicoustic" as he calls them....sound so good by themselves (the mark of a finely made musical intrument) that I don't really want amplification that imposes its own signature on the sound. I really want an amp that can just get out of the way...while making everything louder. Typically, when using bass amps i run into the fx return therefore bypassing the preamp and just using the pwr section.
I have a hunch the L1 system may be able provide me with what I am seeking. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Real life experiences?
