Duplicate post moved here.

Has anyone ever connected a midi control keyboard to a nano piano, to a tc helicon harmony singer, to a Bose L1 system? I tried it today and got a crazy loud noise.

I'm sorry you had trouble getting all these components to work together. Let's track down the source of the crazy loud noise.

Signal Source or PA?

Do you have a (non-Bose) powered loudspeaker or PA? If you do, connect everything you described above "keyboard midi controller to a nano piano, to a tc helicon harmony singer" to the other powered loudspeaker or PA.
Do you still get the crazy loud noise?

  • If you do, the problem is with the signal source.
"keyboard midi controller to a nano piano, to a tc helicon harmony singer"
  • If you don't, the problem is with the ToneMatch mixer and L1

OR

Do get the loud noise if you connect a microphone to the Bose system do still have the loud noise? Please try the option below that matches your equipment.

L1 Model I or L1 Classic or L1 Compact

  • Connect the microphone directly to channel 1 of your L1

L1 Model 1S or L1 Model II

  • Connect the ToneMatch mixer to the L1
  • Connect the microphone to channel 1 of the ToneMatch mixer

Before we go running through all the options, please tell us:

  • Is the problem the signal source or the PA?
  • What model is your ToneMatch mixer (T1, T4S, or T8S)?
  • What model is your L1 (L1 Compact, L1 Model I, L1 Model 1S, L1 Model II)?

Thanks,

Re: Midi control keyboard to a nano piano, to a tc helicon harmony singer, to a Bose L1 system

I assume you are using the Harmony singer to produce vocal harmonies with the keyboard sounds controlling them? So you have a mic going through the HS? Do you have both the mic and the  'inst thru' going to the L1 and exactly do you have them connected?

Re: Midi control keyboard to a nano piano, to a tc helicon harmony singer, to a Bose L1 system

I have the midi controlled keyboard connected to a Nano Piano module, with that module going into the instrument in on the HS.
My vocal mic goes into the harmony singer, which is all going into the Bose sound match mixer, which connects to the L1 Bose tower (the very first model).

thanks if you can make sense of this....!

Do the mic and the 'inst thru' got to different channels of the mixer? and what was the nature of the noise (could it be feedback/howlround)?

Hi, Annie.

Thanks for the additional information. That helps.

I've altered the questions I asked in my earlier post based on the information you just provided.

Let's track down the source of the crazy loud noise.

Signal Source?

Do you have a (non-Bose) powered loudspeaker or PA? If you do, connect everything you described above "keyboard midi controller to a nano piano, to a tc helicon harmony singer" to the other powered loudspeaker or PA.

  • If you do, the problem is with the signal source.
"keyboard midi controller to a nano piano, to a tc helicon harmony singer"
  • If you don't, the problem may be with the ToneMatch mixer and L1

L1?

L1 Classic

  • Connect the microphone directly to channel 1 of your L1

Do you get the loud noise? If you do the issue is with the L1

ToneMatch mixer?

  • Connect the ToneMatch mixer to the L1 channel 1
  • Connect the microphone to the ToneMatch mixer, channel 1

Do you get the loud noise? If you do then the issue is probably with the ToneMatch mixer.

Based on the answers to my questions above, Is the problem the signal source or the L1 or the ToneMatch mixer?

  • What model is your ToneMatch mixer (T1, T4S, or T8S)?
  • Please describe the loud noise. Is it a howl or a squeal or something else?

Thanks,

ST

The system is a PS1 and the tone match is a T1.

Re: Midi control keyboard to a nano piano, to a tc helicon harmony singer, to a Bose L1 system

Hi Annie,

Thanks for confirming the Bose equipment you are using.

Annie posted:

L1 Classic

Connect the microphone directly to channel 1 of your L1

Do you get the loud noise? If you do the issue is with the L1

T1 ToneMatch mixer

  • Connect the T1 ToneMatch mixer to the L1 channel 1
  • Connect the microphone to the ToneMatch mixer, channel 1

Do you get the loud noise? If you do then the issue is probably with the T1 ToneMatch mixer and we can explore that further.

If you don't hear the loud noise let's keep going.

TC Helicon Harmony Singer

Do you have the

TC Helicon Harmony Singer

or

TC Helicon Harmony Singer 2

Connection to the T1

Connect the TC Helicon Harmony Singer to the T1. Do not connect the microphone yet.

Do you hear the loud noise?

Connect the microphone

Do you hear the loud noise? If yes, then you probably need to contact TC Helicon.

If not, let's connect the Nano Piano module.

TC Helicon Harmony Singer Instrument In

Do you hear the loud noise? If yes, then you probably need to contact TC Helicon.

Previously, did you connect the INSTR THRU through to the T1?

TC Helicon Harmony Singer Instrument through

If you do that now, do you hear the loud noise? If yes, then you probably need to contact TC Helicon.

How far did you get before you heard the loud noise?

Thanks,

ST

Re: Midi control keyboard to a nano piano, to a tc helicon harmony singer, to a Bose L1 system

Thanks SO MUCH, ST! It’s all working well right now.

I appreciate all of your help!!

Annie

PS; does quality of the cable affect volume output? It feels like the T1 isn’t pushing a lot of volume unless I crank the main up. Or maybe that’s the Harmony Singer?
