Mono or stereo input

I'm going to experiment singing with backing tracks along with my guitar. I have the MP3's without vocals on my Samsung S8. Should I use a stereo ring tip sleeve cable and if so can I plug it into any of the four channels or the input on the base? I plugged a mano Jack into an old phone and it burned out the input connector. Of the phone that is. I was told a mono plug creates a short circuit. What's the best way play a file from a phone through the system? Thank you.

Re: Mono or stereo input

Hi WSS.

We have an article that shows you various ways to connect backing tracks to Bose L1 equipment.  Please see

Backing Tracks

Does that help?

Re: Mono or stereo input

One question I didn't notice it answered on that page which is very helpful, but what about the input on the powered base?

Re: Mono or stereo input

Hi WSS,

The analog input on the Model II Power Stand is mono and the connection is balanced. Don't connect a stereo signal (1/4 inch (6.3 mm) Tip-Ring-Sleeve) to this input. It won't work.
