S1 Pro with Active Sub-Bass

Hello......

Occasionally at larger venues, I introduce my Proel 1 x 10 active subwoofer into the PA system, using the onboard pre-set crossover [choice of 125 or 160 Hz], feeding both S1's from the 2 Chanels on the Proel [left/right -in/out].

In order to balance the PA system for best sound, would the correct procedure here be to set the sub-bass first [to the required volume for the venue], and then dial in the volumes of the S1 Pro's to get the best balance?

Also, whilst I know there is no definitive answer, what is generally the best placement or "rule of thumb" for placing a single sub-bass when gigging with a portable PA [just guitar & vocals]?

Thanks for looking.....all opinions greatly appreciated......Brian.

Re: S1 Pro with Active Sub-Bass

Hey onemanband,

Great question! I would always recommend gain staging your S1 Pro first, and then set the subwoofer afterwards. As for a 'rule of thumb' regarding placement, this is a whole field of it's own! The acoustics of a venue can vary wildly and as such we can't really provide a catch-all rule to cover this.

I hope this helps!

Re: S1 Pro with Active Sub-Bass

So I have invested in a Sub1 to augment the S1 Pro's; what an awesome sound !!

Just one question: how can you tell if the Sub1 phase is set correctly (+ or -).

Is it blatantly obvious or just a case of fine tuning your ears.

What are the signs if it is set incorrectly?

I assume that positive (+) is the "normal" default setting?

Thanks for looking; any advice greatly appreciated.

Meanwhile I will try and navigate to the "Bose learning centre" to find the answers!

Thank You..........Brian

Re: S1 Pro with Active Sub-Bass

Hi Brian!

It should be apparent if the phase on the Sub1 needs changing, as the overall sound will seem 'hollow' and lacking in power in the low end. I'd advise leaving the switch in the positive position to start, then adjusting if necessary.

Hope this helps!
