Tonematch (T8S) USB (type B) output to iPhone (Lightning) connection device for Live Facebook video?

Before creating a new topic, please search the Community to avoid creating duplicate threads. If you are posting about a problem, the more of the below details you can include (if applicable) the easier it will be for others to try and help. Bose product name - Tonematch T8S

Country - UK

Hi there,

I'm hoping for some technical help/recommendations.

I have seen Bose's helpful YouTube video how to use your Tonematch mixer to create a live digital audio mix, for a Facebook Live Video.
This would be simple IF I plugged that into my laptop and ran Facebook from there, using my laptop's onboard camera. Unfortunately, my laptop's camera is rubbish.
I'd rather use the camera on my 2020 iPhone SE - the picture quality is MILES better !

I haven't yet figured out how to connect my iphone to my laptop and make it use JUST my iphone's camera. Also, there might be  a short time-lag between audio and video (not being in-synch with each other ?).

So, I figure the best way is to connect my Tonematch T8S directly to my iPhone (with Facebook on it), via it's Lightning connector socket.

I need a compatible device that will work correctly and not overload the iphone's input and cause distortion to the audio.

Anyone been down this road already and REALLY knows which connector to use ?

NB. If I'm gonna bother to use a digital mixer (Tonematch T8S) , I'd think I'd want to output the audio digitally, so no point plugging in the audio to my iphone via the headphone jack (actually, my 2020 iPhone SE doesn't have a headphone jack anyway !), so don't suggest it !

Many thanks in advance for any useful help !

Re: Tonematch (T8S) USB (type B) output to iPhone (Lightning) connection device for Live Facebook vi

Hello snakehips,

I know of two apps that do what you are asking, EpocCam and iVCam.  I tried the free trial version of iVCam, and it worked well for testing, but had a little learning curve.  I didn't stay with it, as I didn't have a great phone to use with it or a great way to mount it. (I ended up using my camcorder through a video interface.)

I don't have any experience with EpocCam.

Does that help?

Re: Tonematch (T8S) USB (type B) output to iPhone (Lightning) connection device for Live Facebook vi

Hi there !

Thanks for the reply.

Erm, no, that didn't help at all.
I'm, asking which physical connector should I use to connect my T8S to my iPhone SE (2020).

Maybe your advice was how to use my iPhone as just a camera, to connect to my laptop ?
I'd like something that doesn't need to navigate complicated software - and it sounds like you had the same problem with your suggestion ! Thanks all the same !!

Re: Tonematch (T8S) USB (type B) output to iPhone (Lightning) connection device for Live Facebook vi

Hello snakehips,

Sorry, I focused on your statement "I haven't yet figured out how to connect my iphone to my laptop and make it use JUST my iphone's camera. ..."   That's what led to my suggestions.

As far as I know, even with any direct cable connection from USB-B to Lightning, the T8S won't be recognized as a sound source.  (I think it has to do with Apple's recognition of the T8S as an audio source, but I've been mistaken many times before! 😀  I will gladly sit back and see if anyone else knows if this is possible.)

The only Lightning interface I'm aware of is the iRig Stream, and you are still coming out of the T8S with an analog connection to the iRig Stream.  Of course, there may be other interfaces as well, but it adds expense and complexity and is not the direct cable solution you're looking for.

I'll drop out and see if anyone else has a workable solution.

Re: Tonematch (T8S) USB (type B) output to iPhone (Lightning) connection device for Live Facebook vi

Hi again !

Well, I have bought the Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter :
 https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MK0W2ZM/A/lightning-to-usb-3-camera-adapter

I asked the Apple technical support and they were not sure fully if it would work.
It's mainly designed to download large camera & video files - and I expect that means from the iPhone to the laptop. That would be useful enough to me for downloading all my iphone videos & pictures - so I figured I'll buy it anyway.

Whether it can handle inputing LIVE streaming audio into my iphone, and with no time lag between it and the iphone's video'ing, I'll have to wait until I get the adapter in the post AND try it all out.

Having looked at the iRig Stream, it seems the audio input is via L&R phone inputs.
Sure, I could use a Mini-Jack to L&R Phone plugs, with a Mini-Jack to Jack adapter, from the T8S's headphone output. The iRig Stream is about £93 GBP

I also saw the iRig Pro - which has an XLR input with level knob.
I could take one of the Main output XLR's from the T8S (making sure all channels are diverted to that output, if not already) - and plug into the iRig Pro, then it's other end cable plugs into my iPhone Lightning socket. This one costs about £150 GBP.

Would the sound quality be any better with £150 GBP iRig Pro (using the XLR Main Output from the T8S), or using the £93 GBP iRig Stream (using the headphone output socket of the T8S) ???
Would one overload the iPhone worse than the other ?
Who knows !!!

If the Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter works out fine, I'll need to spend more money and find out !!!

I'll keep y'all posted ! Many thanks for the help.

May be a simpler and cheaper solution is to buy a webcam that has better picture quality. Connect webcam to your computer and use it.

Re: Tonematch (T8S) USB (type B) output to iPhone (Lightning) connection device for Live Facebook vi

Thanks for this discussion. I’m currently streaming our church band’s video and audio through my Bose L1S1 system (using the T1 mixer)  miked with a Blue Yeti USB microphone (4 feet from the tower) connected to my IPhone 7 via a “doggle” Lightning to USB Camera adapter. It works pretty well-no noticeable latency between video and audio though I get some audio distortion (overdriven) on Facebook Live, but not Livestream. Have been tweaking the Gain setting and mike placement on the Blue Yeti but thinking about exploring the Aux out setting on the T1 as a potential better audio solution.
