If I hook up my HD500X to one of the tonematch inputs on the T1, and set my trim, how does the volume pedal affect the level input? Does one set the trim with the pedal at full volume? I normally play at about 1/2 on the pedal to give myself sone headroom for certain songs while keeping my guitar volume knob at about 9. Would it be better to go from the HD500X into the us input on the base?

Great question. Set the trim
Then set the T1® Trim, so you see solid green, occasional flickers of yellow, never red.
Once you do that, you should never have clipping distortion (bad) as the signal enters the T1®. And, once you've set that, you shouldn't have to change the trim again. Adjust the volume using the T1® channel volume and master volume controls.
Here is an excerpt from an article.
Your first adjustment for any input to your T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine is the Trim setting. The exact position of the Trim will vary depending on signal strength of your input source. The correct setting for any particular source may be different from your other sources.
Set your source at the maximum that it will be when performing.
Turn the Trim setting up until the Trim Light is solid green with occasional flickers of yellow. Use the Trim lights as your guide. (The exact position of the Trim knob is not important).
If you see flickers of red (below), turn the Trim down. You are definitely nearing or in compression. Turn the Trim down until there are no red flickers.
Bill-at-Bose [1] talks about setting the gain on a T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine.
Would it be better to go from the HD500X into the us input on the base?
Unless you NEED all the channels on your T1® for other things, connect to the T1®. This will make it easier to:
Has your L1® arrived yet?

Thanks for the great insight! That seems like a great way to go with it. Cuts out any chance for a distorted feed through the T1. My first L1 arrives tomorrow. Unfortunately, I’m heading off to the coast to play on Thursday, so I wont be able to fiddle with the L1 until Sunday.
Hi, The Edge,
You're probably wondering what ToneMatch Preset to use. Try this.
And leave the zEQ and ParaEQ settings Bypassed. You won't need them unless you get into a situation where the room needs help. For example, if the room is sucking up all the mid-high frequencies, you may want to use the zEQ reduce the bass. Or if there's a nasty resonance at a specific frequency, you might choose to attenuate that with ParaEQ,
I'd also leave all the other effects Bypassed on the guitar channel. You'll control all of that within the HD 500X.
Having fun yet?

Have a great trip. I'm looking forward to hearing your first impressions once you get everything set up.
