Bose® SoundLink® Bluetooth Mobile Speaker II firmware update

Hi Everyone,

I inherited a really old Bose® SoundLink® Bluetooth Mobile Speaker II (https://www.amazon.com/SoundLink-Bluetooth-Mobile-Speaker-Discontinued/dp/B0090Z3QG6/ref=sr_1_8?keyw...) and the item is having blinking red-light due to the power related matters.

I know what I need to do, and what is wrong with it. A possibly faulty firmware requires the battery to be reset and reconfigured. I also have purchased a separate battery and the system doesn't seem to be able to restart its charging process.

has a community of users who reported that I need to either downgrade or upgrade the firmware on the Soundlink device, but I am unable to use the latest version of the device to update the settings.

The new software is currently unable to detect the speaker at all as the speaker is no longer supported by Bose. (https://btu.bose.com/?p=-1#section=connect)

I am wondering if anyone has the old firmware update tool. I tried the really old Bluetooth Wireless Speaker updater software but that is even older than then one I own, therefore, I can't use that old software to update the firmware on the device as well.

I am essentially stuck in limbo now. Not sure what I should/could do on my Soundlink.

Its still working, just that it doesn't seem to want to charge the batteries that I have.

i have the same problem .you only can install version 1.1.4 but it would not work ...there is no old version anymore .i think they have removed it already .Bad Service and Bad Product . would not buy it again ...

I have the same problem. A 'very' old Bose SoundLink Mini, red flashing light, and can't update the software as it seems to not to be offered anymore. I went to the website you suggested, but can't make head or teals of it. I love the system (I have a couple) but I am disappointed that it seems not to be supported any longer!  Help, please.  L

I am not able to get a firmware update for this speaker.  Cannot power it on and the battery shows orange.  It is plugged into AC to charge.  Is there a solution?

Hey crclement,

That sounds odd! Are you saying the speaker will not operate at all unless plugged into AC? Does the battery LED ever turn green when plugged in to indicate a full charge?

Does the link provided for the update not work for you? What exactly is going wrong in the process?

This speaker has been out of commission for a long while now so I decided to try and troubleshoot it one last time before giving up on a product we rarely used.  I have it plugged in AC, it went from flashing orange for several minutes to now only solid orange.  This product has not been charged in a very long time.

No the link for the update does not work.

Have you checked whether or not the speaker will work when not plugged into AC?

Also, could you try the link HERE, for the Bose updater, and let me know if that loads for you?

Just an update. I got mine to work now. Basically the blinking orange battery light implies that battery is either faulty, or very low in power (critical). I left mine charging for a good 10hrs, and after that, switch off the power for 5-min. After which, I am able to use the speaker.

my old battery is completely dead, so i bought a 3rd party oem battery. its not as good as the original, but its significantly more affordable, about $40 USD, and it works.

if i don't use the speaker for more than 1 week, the speaker will not start until i 'jolt' the power with the power adapter, then the battery works again as per norm. Side point, never let your speaker battery goes to zero. meaning, once you see that it has a red indicator, do charge it asap.
