SoundLink Micro poor audio quality on MacBook pro

My SoundLink Micro works fine with my iPhone and it used to work fine on my MacBook Pro (MBP). Suddenly the audio quality when connected to the MBP is quiet and tinny. I turned off the bluetooth on my MBP and reconnected it to my iPhone and the sound quality was restored. I then connected it back to the MBP and the issue came back. seems like an issue with the laptop but im not sure what more I can do other than forgetting the device and reconnet it (which I have already done). Anyone experience a similar issue?

OK! FINALLY, I'VE COME TO A FIX!

It may be dumb for you or someone out there so I'll share the solution:

Go to Preferences > Sound > Input and select whatever other input you have available different than your Bose device. That was it! Attached image 🙂

Re: SoundLink Micro poor audio quality on MacBook pro

Hi JV_,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the Community!

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing poor quality audio from your MacBook Pro. I can imagine how frustrating this must be for you and I will do all I can to assist you!

I think you could be correct, as your audio quality is restored when you connect to your phone, I do not believe there is an issue with your SoundLink Micro. I suspect there is a setting somewhere on your MDP that is causing this issue.

What source do you predominantly listen too? Are you streaming your music or is it stored?

I look forward to hearing from you!

Kindest,

Re: SoundLink Micro poor audio quality on MacBook pro

I am having exactly the same issue. My Bose sounds perfect with my Mac mini, with my iPhone and my wife's, and with my iPad. But, when I connect it with my Macbook Pro it sounds pretty poor, like if it was submerged underwater. I normally use the internal speakers. This issue persists with streaming and local files. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Same issue for me too and everything else is working great on all my devices, I don't know what's going on.

Re: SoundLink Micro poor audio quality on MacBook pro

Hello laresbernardo,

Thanks for getting back in touch, I am sorry to hear you are still having trouble. I would be more than happy to help you with this, I would recommend firstly resetting your speaker and clearing the pairing list of the speaker as well as the MacBook.

To restore the factory default settings (Note: This reset erases all settings and returns your product to its default out-of-box state):

  1. Power on your product
  2. Press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds until the Bluetooth® light glows blue and you hear a voice prompt to select a language.

To clear the product memory of connected Bluetooth® devices:

  1. Power on your product
  2. Press and hold the Bluetooth button for about 10 seconds until you hear a tone.#

It would also be good for you to test with another speaker if you have one available to see if the same issue occurs?

I look forward to hearing from you!

Kindest regards,

Zoe C

Re: SoundLink Micro poor audio quality on MacBook pro

Hi Zoe.

I did both, as suggested: resetting my Bose speaker and my MacBook's Bluetooth devices. I also turned off all Bluetooths on each of my other devices so there would be no conflicts with the connection. Nothing yet! Still same terrible low sound 😞

I do not have another similar speaker so I can't test the Bluetooth connection. However, my Bluetooth earphones sound perfect!

Any further ideas?

Re: SoundLink Micro poor audio quality on MacBook pro

Hello,

Okay, let's try updating the speaker, please follow the steps below:

To install a Bose system update, follow these steps (Note: A USB-A to USB-micro B cable is required for this update):

  • Be sure the computer has internet connectivity, and that you're running a compatible operating system and web browser.
  • Navigate to the Bose Bluetooth Device Updater page at btu.bose.com and select your product
  • Click "Accept and Continue" to accept the terms of the Bose Updater
  • Click "Download" to download the updater
  • Once downloaded, open the file to install the updater, then connect the headphones to your computer via USB
  • If an update is available, click "Apply Changes" to download the latest software. You can also click "Learn More" to find out about what improvements the update contains
  • Once the system has been successfully updated, disconnect the headphones from the computer

Please let me know how you get on!

Kindest regards,

Zoe C

Re: SoundLink Micro poor audio quality on MacBook pro

Nothing.

I updated the speaker to the latest version as you suggested (see attachment).

I deleted my Bluetooth caché devices and reset the speaker as new.

The sound issue hasn't been solved!

Is there something else I can try?

Re: SoundLink Micro poor audio quality on MacBook pro

Hello laresbernardo,

Thanks for updating, have you tried the speaker connected to your phone? How does that sound? Also, I am interested to know if you have always had the audio difference on the MacBook or has it suddenly deteriorated?

I look forward to hearing from you!

Kindest regards,

Zoe C
