How to check power being used by amplifier?

Hi Everyone!

Some time a go I have installed 40 Free Space DS16 speakers with PowerShare 600A4 amplifier in a business building. Now there is need to add couple more speakers.

After testing the volume and last adjustments for different spaces (passageway, staircase, lobby etc.) the power set for different zones vary.

Is there another way how to check current power usage of amplifier rather than checking each speakers settings individually and counting them together? I mean, maybe editor software has such a feature or it can be achieved using multimeter...

Hi Dzintars,

This can be difficult, but with a multimeter, you can calculate what load each speaker run is using, and then calculate approximately what the wattage draw is.

However, unless the total sum of each speaker tap is over 600W, it won't matter which run is connected to which output, as PowerShare will distribute power accordingly.

The total possible wattage draw for 40 DS16 speakers maxes out at 640W. So if only 5 of the 40 speakers are tapped below their maximum, you should be ok.

Best regards,
