PowerMatch PM8500 Failure

Hello,

We have an installation with a PowerMatch PM8500 usb only version.

The amp suddenly exhibits the following failure; it powers up, but the front LCD doesn't lit up, only the front fault red LED lits up, no sound is heard and no connection can be established through the CS designer software via the USB. After replacing the faulty amp with a new one, the same exact failure happened again! Very frustrating...

The amplifier was installed in a rack with adequate ventilation at room temperature and in a dry and clean environment. All speaker lines where checked and no shorts where found, meanwhile the amplifier was used at low to medium level volumes, driving speakers at low-z no less than 4 Ohms.

Another fact is that it is installed under a Tescom UPS.

Any thoughts?

Re: PowerMatch PM8500 Failure

Hello again,

During the weekend another PowerMatch PM8500 at the same installation presented the exact same fault and now is non functional as well.

Meanwhile, this weekend another PowerMatch PM8500 in another installation presented the following message error at the front screen "FAULT, Power Supply fan failure, please cycle power to recover". After powercycling it twice the fault disappeared. The unit was installed around five months ago in normal conditions. Any thoughts on this?

Actually, this year we had 4 PowerMatch units that presented the "blank front screen" problem under normal conditions. Is this a normal statistic or should we worry about a factory defect?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Re: PowerMatch PM8500 Failure

Hello Miltos,

Sorry to read you are experiencing issues with the PowerMatch amplifiers.

On the first project, you mention you replace the PowerMatch.
How long was it between the replacement and the moment the second unit failed?
Can you provide us more information on the UPS?

On the second project, this probably is a fan issue. So the fan might need be replaced.

Can you provide me all the serial numbers of the broken PowerMatch amplifiers (linked to the project)?

Thank you in advance.
