Re: Phone-Free mode is a huge win

Hello Matt_007 and NickIs,

Apologies for any confusion. I can confirm the Sleepbuds stop advertising Bluetooth wireless signal after the 10-minute window.

Thanks for your post.

Kind Regards,

Re: Sleep buds offline music

Hi Windsurfer,

Thanks for post and i'm sorry to hear you are having this issue.

As you have gone through some troubleshooting already, the following steps may assist you -

Turn Airplane mode on, then off in the device.

Toggling Airplane mode on then off forces the device and Bose system to re-pair or re-connect.

Close the Bose Sleep app and reopen it

  • On iOS, double tap the Home button, and swipe away the Sleep app
  • On an Android device, press the Recents button and swipe away the Sleep app

Reboot the device running the Bose app.

The device may have malfunctioned and might need to be reset. This is typically done by turning the device off and, if applicable, removing the battery for 15 seconds. Reinstall the battery, if it was removable, and turn the device back on.

Resetting the charging case

Resetting the charging case powers the case off and then on. This can help resolve charging issues. To reset the charging case, insert a thin paper clip into the hole on the back of the case near the USB connector. Press until you feel a click.

Note: There is no communication link between the sleepbuds and the charging case, only charging. Resetting the case while the sleepbuds are charging may help power cycle the sleepbuds.

If after trying the above, I would then suggest contacting your local Customer Support Team for further assistance. If you select the following link - Contact Us, Select your region and scroll to the bottom of the page to "contact us" this will provide you with their telephone number.

I hope this helps resolve your issue.

Many thanks

Re: Phone-Free mode is a huge win

This is NOT “solved”. The question stands: does phone free mode turn off the antennae in the sleep buds or not? Are the antennae still on and waiting for the phone or not? Stop saying they don’t “advertise”. We don’t know what that means. When in phone free mode, after the ten minute window, are the antennae in the sleep buds on? Or are they off? To be clear, “On” means they are EMITTING OR WAITING TO RECEIVE A BLUETOOTH SIGNAL, either constantly, sporadically or otherwise. “Off” means they are not... it is akin to the sleep buds not even having a Bluetooth antennae installed. So which is it? On or off? It shouldn’t be this difficult to get a clear answer.

Re: Phone-Free mode is a huge win

Hello CooperD,

Thanks for posting in the community, I am sorry that you are not happy with the explanation provided previously. What is meant by the sleepbuds are not advertised, is that they are not discoverable via Bluetooth. However, they are still in a Bluetooth Low Energy(BLE) state as they still need to have a connection with the phone for things like alarms.

I hope this helps, should you need anything else then please get in touch.

Have a great day!

Kindest regards,

Zoe C

Re: Phone-Free mode is a huge win

Hi Cooper,

Zoe is telling you the complete opposite of what has been stated by other moderators on here. I’ve pasted a very straight answer from Jessie O.

I’d suggest Zoe needs to confirm who is correct about this issue, as we seem to get totally different answers from different moderators. It’s an important issue to a lot of people & it would be good if the Bose support team were clear & didn’t cause confusion with mixed information.

Re: Does Bluetooth turn off completely after 10 minutes
Thank you Jessie. So to confirm, you are saying that there is no signal of any kind coming from the buds after 10 minutes when in phone free mode?

This is great news as most people are ok with 10 minutes but not an entire night of transmitting.

Re: Phone-Free mode is a huge win

But I thought they don't need this connection when they are in phone free mode because alarms don't work there.
So wouldn't that mean that there is no signal emitted from the sleep buds whatsoever when they are in phone free mode?

Re: Phone-Free mode is a huge win

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for taking the time to post on this Community thread. We know a few of you have had questions surrounding Phone Free Mode and the amount of radiation the Sleepbuds emit, so we have compiled all of the information together, to hopefully answer your questions.

How does ‘Phone Free Mode’ work?

When placing the Sleepbuds™ into ‘Phone Free Mode’ the Buds will advertise (been seen) over BLE for a period of 10 minutes, starting when they are placed into phone-free mode, or whenever they are initially removed from the case. In Phone-Free Mode, your pre-selected sleep sound will play as soon as the buds are removed from the charging case, no app required, but wake up alarms are disabled while in this mode. After a period of 10 minutes, the Buds can no longer be found over Bluetooth and will need to be put back into the case in order to establish a Bluetooth connection.

Do I need to worry about Radiation when not in ‘Phone Free Mode’?

Bose noise-masking Sleepbuds™ achieve ultra-low radiation exposure because we do not stream audio or other content throughout the night. Instead, the product plays back audio files that are stored locally. In addition, Sleepbuds™ use a class-Ill Bluetooth® radio, which has the lowest transmit power among all the Bluetooth ® classes. Over the entire night, Sleepbuds™ emit a fraction of what traditional Bluetooth® headsets emit during a single phone call.

Can the sound levels damage my hearing through continued use?

Bose noise-masking Sleepbuds™ will have a maximum sound pressure level (SPL) output of 70dBA, which is well under the OSHA and EU limits for hearing damage. Note that sound pressure is measured on a logarithmic scale. 80dBA is twice the perceived loudness of 70dBA and 10 times the sound intensity (power); 90 dBA is four times the perceived loudness of 70dBA and 100 times the sound intensity (power).

In the U.S., OSHA sets the maximum exposure limit for an 8-hour work period at 90dBA, but also mentions that the employer must implement a hearing conservation program if levels exceed 85dBA. https://bit.ly/2Zyp6ZV.

In the European Union (EU), the Noise-at-Work Regulations (Directive 2003/10/EC) sets the maximum 8-hour exposure limit at 80dBA before some type of hearing protection must be provided. Below this limit, the risk to hearing is assumed to be negligible. https://bit.ly/2WQmdlH.

If you have any further questions please let us know and one of our moderators would be more than happy to assist.

Kind Regards,
