So it seems to me that, while this endeavour failed, they are not giving up on searching for a way to make this work and learn from this project. At least, that's what I hope. In the meantime, i hope I get a replacement that will keep working soon.

Are you ever going to come out with sleepbuds that are going to hold a charge? I had purchased the Bose sleepbuds and fell in love with them, unfortunately, it was a short love affair because they wouldn’t hold a charge after 3 months. After I swapped them with a new set, and I ended up having the same problem after the next 3 months. I have sent my sleepbuds in for a refund, but I really haven’t found anything close to the comfort and sleep I got from the Bose sleepbuds. Are you going to come out with a better version, maybe noise canceling, or any other kind that will replace the ones you recalled? If so, et me know when. Sleep deprivation is not a good thing. Thank you.
Great, so I did indeed get a replacement pair that was manufactured very recently, unlike my previous pairs, so I'm delighted I do have he slightly improved battery. But like the OPs I can't load any sounds. The app crashes as soon as I go into the library, before I even try and select anything.
Checked to see if charger needed updating - nope
Deleted and reinstalled app
Reset charging case
I'm running iOS 13.2.3 which I updated to between sending off my old buds and receiving the replacements.
I'm sure it is an iOS compatibility issue - someone said they weren't having issues on Android.
So, where are we up to on resolving this please? Could BOSE step in an give us an update? I've been two weeks without the buds, which were failing for a while before I sent them back, the new ones came an hour ago and I'm still not going to be able to use them - even tho' they do have the moderately improved battery.
Just to say I did get a replacement pair made very recently - green sticker on the box, first time I've seen that.
Three different serial numbers - weirdly. One on the box for the packaging, one on the charger and one for the buds themselves you can see in the app. There's a thread explaining that somewhere, but basically, don't be surprised if the number on the charger isn't the same as on the packaging.
Now just have to hope they fix the reason for the sound library crashing in iOS 13.2.3 before you can load anything. At the moment I have just received a very expensive pair of ear plugs..... with an improved battery but no sounds....
Having poked around a bit more I find I can access the preloaded sounds if I don't go into the library and just select the sound from the menu at the bottom of the home screen (under the image of the buds and the battery status).
The app crashes when I try to select from the sound Library - which is a drag because my favourite sound is Shore Line..... If I select anything from there, preloaded or cloud, it crashes.
Please could you sort this out. I'm really not crazy about the preloaded options. Swell is the closest but I can hear the loop on that one ; ) Downstream just makes me want to head for the loo.

When I first heard about the Sleepbuds I was thrilled — I used an app called Naturespace to fall (and stay) asleep.
However, a couple of months in, they started disconnecting, not charging — we all know the issues. I've waited for a resolution and apparently the discontinuation is the answer.
However, I'm in sort of a weird situation: I wanted to process the refund, but I can only select the US as a country. I've bought the sleepbuds while on a trip to Singapore and I'm in Romania, where no official service center exists, just a sound shop in small city on the other side of the country (https://global.bose.com/en_us/europe/romania.html).
So my question to Bose is: how do I process this refund in the current situation? Is there an option to get a voucher/discount for another Bose product if the refund cannot be processed?
