Sleepbuds II – Setup Guide

Hey everyone,

We’re very excited you’ve chosen to purchase a pair of our Bose Sleepbuds II! Hopefully if you’re reading this you’ve got your new buds in hand. We know you’re excited to jump right in and start using them right out of the box, but we’ve got some steps you should do first to ensure you have the best possible experience with your Sleepbuds II!

  1. Charge the buds straight from the box for a minimum of 6 hours. Much like other electronic devices, this ensures that you will get the best battery performance possible. To do this, remove all plastic coatings, keep the Sleepbuds in the case, and plug the case into power using the provided charging cable.
  2. Activate Bluetooth on your phone and open the Bose Sleep app. Once in the Bose Sleep app, you will be guided through how to connect and set up your Sleepbuds.
  3. Finally, you may be notified that an update is available. This may take a while, but once complete, you will be good to go.

We hope you enjoy and love your Sleepbuds II as much as we do. Let us know what you think about them below or comment to discuss setup of your buds with the community!

Thanks!

Re: Sleepbuds II – Setup Guide

Well, I’m hoping my order arrives early enough in the day to get the 6 hour charge before being tested for the first night. Can step 2 be done whilst on charge, or should we wait to do that until after the 6 hours?

Hi Denziloshamen,

Thanks for your question!

We do recommend that the Sleepbuds II are left to charge with no interference. After this 6 hour period, you can proceed with your Sleepbud II set up. 😊

Re: Sleepbuds II – Setup Guide

How do we disconnect an older pair? Only one bud works snd it keeps searching for the other.

Re: Sleepbuds II – Setup Guide

Can I ask how the sleepbuds 2 actually charge? Do they charge both at the same time or does one bud charge to 100% and then the other start charging?

The reason I ask is that I received the buds with 17% charge on both and immediately put them on charge as advised. Having just checked how the charge is going, the right bud is on 100% and the left only on 27%. It’s only been three hours charging so far though, so seems accurate for the full six if the case only does one bud at a time. Both buds were perfectly seated and both lights were flashing before I closed the case.

Re: Sleepbuds II – Setup Guide

Well, this is just great. An hour later and now the left one is on 22%. Looks like you didn’t fix these things and the batteries are still terrible. These will be sent straight back!!

Re: Sleepbuds II – Setup Guide

I had the exact same problem. The charging light kept blinking and it showed only 22% charge on the right earbud.

I took the earbuds out of the case and used a toothpick to reset the charging case like I had to do with my version 1 sleepbuds.

I plugged my buds back in to the case and both of them lit up solid to show a full charge. I checked the app and it now shows they are both at 100% charge.

Hopefully that is the long term solution.

Re: Sleepbuds II – Setup Guide

Is it still only possible to connect one pair of sleepbuds at a time? I imagine that a few of us have more than one pair, now. Given the problems with the last generation, I’m finally confident that pair will work through the night, and I’m not ready to go all-in on the new ones (which are undergoing their initial charge, now, anyway...).

Re: Sleepbuds II – Setup Guide

Hello Kaw143,

Thanks for reaching out.

It is possible to connect a single pair of Sleepbuds to the Bose Sleep app at one time.

What if we interrupt the initial charge? Why the "Start here" guide says nothing about first charge?

Hi,

I just got my Sleepbuds II, and let them charge while I read the quick guide, instructions, etc. I saw nothing about letting them charge for 6 hours straight from the box. Just the opposite - the "Start Here" guide says to download the app and start settting the Sleepbuds II, which obviously requires removing them from the case.

Still, just in case, I left the Sleepbuds II in the case for a few hours (maybe 5). Then, I decided to remove them from the case to check the charge from within the app (I thought maybe they were already charged, but for some reason the light was still blinking).

The app took me through the already-known tour - how to fit them in the ear, blah blah blah. I already know the drill (I owned the previous Sleepbuds version "one"), but I read each step thoroughly.

And then, at the very end of this tour, the app says something like "it's important to let the Sleepbuds II charge for at least 6 hours in the very first charge". Sorry??? What??? You tell me this after making me remove them from the case to make sure I know how to place them in my ears? I think this information should be the first message in the app, not the very last one.

Anyway. Then, after this message was shown, the main screen appeared (the Sleepbuds II picture, etc.), showing a semi-charged battery icon... in yellow!! I didn't touch it to see the exact number - I just panicked at the thought that I had interrupted this very-important-first-charge, and put the Sleepbuds II quickly back in the case. But once I did, they just blinked once, then the light stayed lit. Uh? According to the app, they weren't fully charged. Then, I removed them from the case to place them once more in the case, in the hopes that this time they would resume charging, but as I removed them and waited for a moment, the app connected back to them and showed the battery icon filled in green - now I did touch it, and the charge was "100%". How come are they now fully charged, if a moment ago it was yellow and, obviously, less than 100%?

So, I'm afraid I have somehow screwed the maximum charge capacity for the Sleepbuds II, for good, so I've gone ahead and asked for a replacement.

This option (replacement) may seem overkill - maybe the issue fixes itself after using them and charging them back again. I would think that of any other product. But I already was a victim of the battery issues with the first version of the Sleepbuds, and went through a really annoying series of problems and all kind of weird "battery rituals", case resets and the like to try to fix what we finally found was unfixable, so I am not what you would call "confident" in Bose's battery management ability, hence I prefer to start over from scratch to lessen the chance of future problems down the road.

But I think you (Bose) should clearly state this (the need for a complete first charge before removing the Sleepbuds II from the case) in the box. And don't get me wrong - I totally support Bose for releasing this product, and for their replacement/refund policy with version "one", but I think you (Bose) have completely dropped the ball on this one (showing the message about the first charge too late in the app, and nowhere in the documentation inside the box). Please let's make things right this time around... Thank you.
