Re: Bose Soundbar 700 - Connecting Active Subwoofer

It is possible to connect a non Bose subwoofer but It is not the easiest and the results will never be as good as using the Bose one.

I have a Samsung 55 tv no analog out. Connecte the optical out from the tv ino to a receiver Sony STR DB830 into say in the tv in (optical) then from the MD/Tape out optical connect to the Bose optical in.

Signal is processed in digital form (not sure if the out was in 5.1 or 2.0 but It did sound good) and connecting to the phono out for subwoofer I was able to get the decoded LFE,and was able to increase the signal output to the active sub (Kef) using the receiver volume getting a decent sound whilst the soundbar was working still thinking It had no sub . Sound was ok and there was no latency. However I do not recommend as I am sure the design was not intended this way. I listened to the Bose soundbar/Bose sub combination and it is fantastic.

This may be a temporary fix until you get an actual Bose one.

If you are not sure about what to do then do not risk it.
