My Bose 450 is stuck in update mode. I have tried all three steps seen on another thread when this apparently happens with the 500. Light flashing left to right and nothing is happening. It says its updating on my Bose app. Frustrating as hell.

I'm sorry to hear your speaker has seemed to have gotten stuck in an update loop. How long has it been updating? It usually should only take between 20 minutes up to an hour (depending on internet speed).
Just to clarify, what exactly have you tried so far?
Do you usually have issues with internet speeds when downloading files or streaming content?
