Detailed description of the issue and steps to reproduce  

I've had the bose speaker for about 3 days everything was fine. I had it grouped to the Bose Soundlink Color 2. Both new. Worked perfectly until today it stop connecting to devices. When I connect the bose 500 to my phone or tv it breaks up the grouping of the two speakers. It wasn't doing that the past 3 days. So ended up going into recovery mode. Now the Bose Home Smart Speaker 500 stays with a white bar flashing from left to right. Been like that all day, no progress. I can't even get it out of Recovery mode and it just goes to that when I plug it back in. Literally bought both speakers three days ago and already $500 down the drain. I've never had a problem with Bose till now.

Yes, for the first 3-4 days I've had it. Brand new. 

Any troubleshooting steps you took

The recovery mode. Has stayed in recovery mode ever since.

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the forums. 

 

I would love to help! We can start to look to fix this by answering a few questions and trying some steps, to start with, please can you clarify how you are entering recovery mode? Also, have you reset your system via power cycling? To do this all we need to do is unplug the speaker, wait 5 minutes, and plug it back in. It would be great to know, what does the bose music app show as the speaker's status?

 

To enter Recovery mode:

  1. Disconnect the speaker from power and wait 30 seconds
  2. Reconnect the speaker to power
  3. When the light bar illuminates, follow the steps below within ten seconds:
    Tip: Do not rapidly alternate button presses. Wait one second between presses
    1. On the speaker, tap the Action button once
    2. Tap the Microphone Off button once
    3. Tap the Action button a second time
    4. Tap the Microphone Off button a second time.

Things to know about this process

  • The light bar will blink green to indicate the speaker has entered recovery mode. The speaker will then try to download and install the latest update. The light bar scrolls white from left to right while downloading and then from right to left while installing. This can take several minutes (often around 20 minutes). When the light bar turns off, turn on the speaker, open the Bose Music app and add the speaker to your account.
  • If the light bar does not blink green after the four button presses, restart the process and continue alternate taps of the Action and Microphone Off buttons for 30 seconds.
  • If the speaker has not previously connected to your Wi-Fi network, follow the steps above, then try connecting to Wi-Fi using the alternate method
