Smart Home Speaker + Soundbar - Alexa and Spotify Issue

Hi, I have an new Bose 500 but when I link Alexa with Spotify, the unit freezes and then have to turn completely off.

 

i have now tried google assistant after re installing all apps, and this now seems to work okay, but I want to use Alexa no Google assistant

 

any one know how to fix this issues, and I’ve rebooted reinstalled Bose music app & Alexa app? Help please.

Hi Nick H,

 

Thank you for posting and joining us in the community! This certainly is a strange issue you have encountered!

 

I do have a couple of questions to help me get a better picture of what is happening with your speaker.

 

Firstly, is this the HomeSpeaker 500 or the Soundbar 500 that you are using?

 

Also, what country are you in?

 

When you say it freezes when you link Alexa with Spotify, is this when you are adding Alexa to your speaker, when you are asking Alexa to play from Spotify or at another time?

 

Does it provide any error messages in the app when this happens?

 

Do let me know as I would love to get to the bottom of this with you!

Hello everyone,

 

I am having this issue here, when I ask Alexa to play music from Spotify my speaker doesn't work anymore and I have to reset factory settings to unfreeze it. (yes my Spotify account is linked to Alexa app). I was wondering if someone is having the same problem and if there is a way to fix it.

Hi,

 

Its a HomeSpeaker 500, i live in the UK, I've installed alexa and all the apps, it will respond when i ask it the time or play the radio, as soon as i ask for a song, Spotify comes on the screen and starts flashing, the unit then doesn't respond & i have to do a hard re-boot. 

 

I've uninstalled everything and re-installed  but still having the same issue, it however works ok with google assistant, but i would prefer to use Alexa 

 

Any help would be appreciated

I have the same problem today in my boses 500.

2 bose 500 have this problem in my home...

@alberto.desi and @Luimio, is what you're experiencing exactly the same as above? Or do your systems do anything slightly different at all? 

 

Also, could you both let me know what countries you are in as well?
 

@Nick H, Thank you for that information!

 

If you ask Alexa to play any other music sources, like TuneIn radio or Amazon Music, would it do the same thing?

 

Also, does Alexa respond to any commands correctly?

 

Have you linked your Spotify account with Alexa through the Alexa app as well? To do this you would go to the Alexa app and navigate to Settings, then Music & Media.  You can then add your Spotify account from there if it has not been added already.

 

If all of you can let me know that information that would be great!

I’m having the same problem Alexa and Spotify just freezing up the speaker,it’s driving me mad 😡..........!!!im ready to just take the thing back to curry’s!!!!!!rubbish

Same is happening to me on my HomeSpeaker500. It plays fine after I reboot when I play tracks from Spotify and the Bose App, however when I say Alexa play "......" theres nothing played. Spotofy logo flashes occasionally with a rectangle box as well. When I go to select a different track via the Spotify or Bose app, it does not work either and have to reboot in order to play a track manually from the apps again. So frustrating......
