Re: Soundbar 500 crackle in right rear speaker after 4.0.8 firmware update

Hello all,

I'd like to apologize to each and every one of you that you are experiencing this issue.

I can assure you that our engineering team is working very hard to bring you all a solution.

We do not currently have a time-frame but as soon as we have any updates, we will be sure to let you all know.

Here is a similar thread that I would advise you to read with troubleshooting steps and information regarding the issue.

In the meantime, we have a few suggestions to try:

  • Change audio source format from 5.1 Dolby to PCM
  • Try toggling Dialogue Mode on/off
  • Adjusting treble/bass settings

Your patience is greatly appreciated while we work on this.

Please let us know if you have questions.

Warm regards,

Charlotte G - Community Support

Thank you for the response Charlotte and I hope this is fixed asap as my Bose unit is quickly becoming a very expensive ornament

Re: Soundbar 500 crackle in right rear speaker after 4.0.8 firmware update

Switching to PCM on the TV audio output resolves the issue but this only provides 2.1 audio so no surround channels. This allows me to use the soundbar without the crackling but obviously not ideal because I don’t get any surround channels.

Bose toasted their flagship speakers worldwide and have no time frame for a fix.

Re: Soundbar 500 crackle in right rear speaker after 4.0.8 firmware update

I just bought the 500 plus Base module and I have the crackling as well when I play Netflix. It comes from the right of the speaker.

Re: Soundbar 500 crackle in right rear speaker after 4.0.8 firmware update

Just want to add that I am also seeing this issue. Seems to be mostly Netflix content just the rear right speaker. Happens with any Netflix content regardless of original source (chromecast, ps4, TV stream direct, sky box etc) . Sicario 2 seemed to really show the error badly if someone is trying to troubleshoot it.

Re: Soundbar 500 crackle in right rear speaker after 4.0.8 firmware update

I have a Bose 700 Soundbar + Surrounds + 700 Sub and experiencing this issue since the 4.0.8 update

I did some checks,

  • Disabled rear speakers and the issue persists just with the soundbar
  • Tried multiple sources from TV HDMI ARC, seemed to be only through Dolby but still need to further check
  • Swapped source to Optical and issue went away, but not ideal at all.

How did this get through QA testing before releasing firmware?? Bose, please give us a better indication of updates from technical/engineering. It took over a year for AirPlay which was unacceptable and now this ... in less than 3 months ownership I've had to factory reset and set everything back up for a handful of stupid issues. What's going on??!

Cheers

-Stu

I have the same issue with my Bose 500 sound bar too! Glad to read that this is a software issue!? So hopefully will be fixed soon. Annoying though! Sort it out Bose.

Surely Bose should push out the previous firmware in the meantime?
