New Bose User Tech Issues w Apple MacBook & iPhone

I've recently bought a SoundTouch SA-5 Amplifier, so I could connect it to existing speakers. Sound quality is excellent - way better than old amplifier. But technology seriously SUCKS! Key issues include:

*Music Library initially accessible on MacBook Pro but dropping out entirely a couple of songs into CD - very frustrating

*Music Library not available on iPhone unless I open in MacBook Pro first. Then - joy! - it also drops out on iPhone several songs in. So work around of trying to play on iPhone rather than MacBook also failing dismally.

*Bluetooth technology to access prior radio program on streaming radio not functioning on MacBook at all, even tho system is recognising MacBook in SoundTouch.

And yes, I have reloaded SoundTouch onto MacBook and loaded latest update. On NBN with highest level of wifi.

Any advice appreciated. Otherwise this is going back in the box, back to the specialist stereo store and being replaced with a Sonos or other quality system that actually works.

Yours, currently pretty pissed off with Bose

Kate

Hey Kate,

Sorry to hear about the Music Library issues you've been having.  Let's see if we can get this solved for you.

So for accessing your music library, your Macbook pro needs to be turned on, and not in sleep mode in order for the SA-5 amplifier and SoundTouch application to see and access it.  As for the music library cutting out after a few songs, it sounds like either your MBP is going into sleep mode, or the Hard drive is shutting off to save power.  You will want to go to System Preferences>Energy Saver and uncheck "Put Hard Disks to Sleep Whenever Possible".  This will make sure that the music is accessible by SoundTouch whenever your MBP is on.

As far as changing the sleep timer on your laptop, that is up to you.  I personally have my laptops set to sleep when I press the power button, and I disable the timer.

If you have more questions please let me know!

Best,

Brandon

Problems fixed - New Bose User Tech Issues w Apple MacBook & iPhone

Brandon - thank you so much for your helpful response and my apologies I was so grumpy in my original post! I called Bose Support and they provided the same advice you did - if Energy Saver is turned on and computer goes into sleep mode, it disconnects from Bose Sound system. I've extended it now to 3 hours so can listen without it cutting out.

The bluetooth issue also resolved - while Soundtouch was recognising my computer - it had last paired with my iPhone, so I needed to do new pair to my Macbook again.

thank you so much for your advice - enjoying both music library CDs and bluetooth radio programs f
