Soundtouch 20 wont connect to wifi network

Hi all,

Just bought a Soundtouch 20 (ST20) and a Soundtouch 10 (ST10) to install in my apartment. The problems started as soon as I tried to install the ST20. I could get the app on to the phone and update the app, but as soon as the app tries to connect to the speaker the "Please wait..." text pops up and continues for eternity.

Next I tried to install the speaker through my PC using the USB connector, but that also failed right after the pop up telling me that it has found the speaker on the network. The pop up tells me it has found the speaker then the pop up disapears and nothing more happends...?

I also tried connecting to the ST20 by Bluetooth and that worked straight away.

My fourth attempt was to connect the ST20 straight to the router by ethernet cable and that worked like a charm, no problems what so ever, but since I bought the system for it's wifi capabilities this is not a solution.

I tried one of the alternative set up approaches (https://www.soundtouch.com/KnowledgeCenterView?id=kA140000000GvDhCAK) that involved holding "2" and "volume -" to get in to the "alternative set up" menu so that I then could join the BOSE ST 20 wifi network and through that get access to the ST20 wifi settings through my phones web browser using the address http://192.168.1.1 . That did not work, I get no response from that address. At what point in the install process am I supposed to give the ST20 the password for my router?

My phone can find the BOSE wifi network but when I go in to the ST20 menu to see if it is connected to my network it says it has no connection and gives the code "5110" and I have not been able to find out what that means.

Of course I have also factory reset the ST20 multiple times by now and that has not helped at all.

There clearly is a connectivity problem but I can not for the life of me figure out what to do about it, I have spent the whole evening googling and trying suggestions based on similar problems that other people have had but nothing has worked.

I am using a Netgear WNDR3700 router and at this point I think I have played with most of it's settings. Some of the things I have tried:

1. I have made sure that the 2.4 and 5GHz SSID's are unique.

2. I have reset the router multiple times

3. I have Inactivated and reactivated the 2.4 and 5GHz individually multiple times

4. I have changed the 2.4GHz channel to a static channel instead of the default "Auto" option.

I would be extremely happy if someone could point me to a solution to this problem,I had high hopes for this system but now I'm close to returning it and buying a Sonos system instead. Does anyone know if my router is incompatible with the Soundtouch system? I have googled but not been able to find anything indicating that it is.

Kind regards,

Stefan

Update 2

Finally solved the problems with the ST10. Following another alternative set up guide, https://www.bose.com/en_us/support/article/connecting-to-a-wi-fi-network-alt-setup-st10-20iii-30iii...., I got the ST10 connected to my network and now all is well. I would like to thank myself for my excellent support and to BOSE I would like to give big thumbs down for not being able to create a product that can automatically connect to a network in a similarity to ALL OTHER MODERN DEVICES! On the same tangent, just because you intend for your product to be simple to install doesnt mean that it is, hence delivering the product with actual instructions and a trouble shooter, so that the customer does not have to search the far corners of the internet for help if something goes wrong, is a good idea.

Also, clarifying the difference between https://www.soundtouch.com/KnowledgeCenterView?id=kA140000000GvDhCAK and https://www.bose.com/en_us/support/article/connecting-to-a-wi-fi-network-alt-setup-st10-20iii-30iii.... in the description would have been super helpful 5 hours ago. Maybe merging the two documents into one.....

Final time consumption for setting up a ST20 and a ST10 came down to roughly 10 hours.....

Kind regards,

Stefan

Re: Soundtouch 20 wont connect to wifi network

Update.

I solved the problems I were having by manually loading my network credentials into the ST20 using the alternative method for systems with Bluetooth, as described here https://www.soundtouch.com/KnowledgeCenterView?id=kA140000000GvDhCAK

That was all well and good, but now I have the same problem trying to set up my ST10 unit. Complicating the matter is the fact that the ST10 has no screen and no USB port, hence I can not use the same method I used for my ST20. Any ideas on how I could solve this problem?

Kind regards

Stefan

Re: Soundtouch 20 wont connect to wifi network

Guys --

I was also going thru setup hell with these (they actually were working fine until a sofware update a few weeks ago caused problems).

One thing I learned after many hours of wading thru Bose's HORRIBLE support documents is that the router needs to have this option enabled: Multicast. And it is not enough to enable that option, you also have to reset the router after you do it. Then you need to remove the speakers and start the setup again.  At least this process should only take another half hour. That is, if you know how to connect to your router. If you have to dig out your router manual and figure out how to connect, add another 30 minutes.

That worked for me. Hope it works for you.
