Updated 3/28 - SoundTouch Ecosystem Update - 18.x - Release Notes

Update 3/27:

A minor interface update (18.1.6) was released to correct an issue where it was not possible to create a new SoundTouch account in the Norwegian language.

Update 3/1:

A minor update has been released for the Android application today, March 1st.

Android version 18.1.5:

  • Addresses a rendering issue where some users are unable to accept the Terms of Use and use the app if their device’s text size has been increased.  Some users may still see overlapping text on the Terms of Use screen.  The solution is to temporarily reduce their device’s text size to accept the terms and readjust to their desired size once completed.

Note that this update is for the Android application itself and does not include new firmware for SoundTouch products.

Update 2/20 –

The 18.x SoundTouch firmware update that was previously postponed, will continue its release today – Tuesday 2/20.  The delay has shifted the release timeline slightly, and the new dates are reflected below.  Additionally, the system firmware version number has been changed to 18.0.11.

Thank you for your patience

Update 2/15:

Update to the SoundTouch 18.x ecosystem release.

The SoundTouch app, which includes the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use is being released as scheduled.

The SoundTouch system firmware that enables support for our Alexa smart-home skill; security related updates to improve application configuration and operation; and performance and stability improvements, is delayed.

We will communicate a new SoundTouch system firmware release date once available. If there is a resulting delay to the launch of the Bose Smart Home Skill in the Alexa App, we will communicate a new date for that as well. We are working hard to bring these new features to you as quickly as possible and minimize the delay. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Feature - Alexa Smart Home Skill:

Overview: Once your SoundTouch is updated to 18.x and after the Bose Smart Home Skill launches in the Alexa App. You can use an Amazon Echo, Dot, Tap, etc. to control your SoundTouch speaker(s) on the same network.

Skill name: The name of the Smart Home Skill will be ‘Bose’. This was the name of the existing Custom Skill today, but we changed the Custom Skill name to ‘Bose SoundTouch Control’.

Description: With the Bose Skill and Alexa, you can play your favorite music on your SoundTouch speakers by voice. To get started, you will select the 'Enable Skill' button in the Alexa App to link your SoundTouch account and discover your speakers. Then, using any Alexa-enabled device like an Echo or an Echo Dot, you can talk to Alexa to play music on your SoundTouch speakers.

For example, say “Alexa, play some jazz in the kitchen” to get the music started on the SoundTouch speaker named “Kitchen”.  Once music is playing, you can also control the experience by voice. For example:

“Alexa, pause the bedroom.”

“Alexa, skip the track in the dining room.”

“Alexa, turn up the volume in the living room.”

When making a request, remember to say the name of the speaker, which can be set in the SoundTouch app. Currently, you can play music from Amazon Music, Pandora, TuneIn, SiriusXM, and iHeartRadio.  Make sure to link your accounts for these music services in the Alexa app.

Please note that this Smart Home Skill offers different capabilities than the Bose SoundTouch Control Skill, which provides voice control of SoundTouch presets and other SoundTouch-specific functions. The two skills are complementary and can function together if desired—but note that the SoundTouch Control Skill requires all commands to begin with the phrase “Alexa, ask Bose to…”. This Smart Home Skill does not require “ask Bose to”.

Language/regional support:  At launch, the Smart Home Skill will work in the US and Canada for English users only.  Going forward, we expect it to support all languages and regions where Alexa works.  We are planning expansion to other regions/languages to begin in the April timeframe.  As a reminder, the existing SoundTouch control skill only works in the US in English.

Feature – Improvement for many devices

We improved and redesigned the architecture that benefits users with many devices resulting in smoother navigation. Users will be able to scroll back and forth among devices more smoothly.
