Re: Linux support for Bose Soundtouch App

The GTK client can connect only to one specific speaker and I have only one speaker to test. Currently there are only basic features implemented, so for now it is not planned to support the Multi Room Feature. Are you interested in the app only with this feature? It would be great to get some feedback.

please write me, if somebody of you is interested in testing the app (I support you at compiling and installing). I would be very thankful for feedback, because until now I tested only with my Soundtouch 10 speaker.

If we have a first stable version the app can be published to a app store like https://snapcraft.io or https://appcenter.elementary.io

best wishes, Sergej

Re: Linux support for Bose Soundtouch App

I've recently switched to OSX but still have my Linux laptop around. I'm happy to help you with the app. I think it would be a good idea to post the procedure of compiling openly in this thread so anyone can participate.

Regarding multi room audio: This is clearly an essential feature of the soundtouch line. I enjoy it everyday and it is awesome. The API is also well documented https://developer.bose.com/bose-soundtouch-api

@Jessie_O  FYI: The official Soundtouch App refused to run on the new ARM M1 architecture on OSX. Will there be an update available soon?

Hey Schneekluth,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

As this is a slightly different issue to this thread, would you mind creating a new thread with some additional information? This way, other users with the same issue can interact and we may be able to find a solution.

Re: Linux support for Bose Soundtouch App

Hey @Jessie_O ,

the issue seems to have nothing to do with the new ARM M1 chipset. The error seems to be on Bose's side and the issue has already been mentioned in the forum. You need to update the app with proper certification.

Re: Linux support for Bose Soundtouch App

hi @schneekluth ,

I compiled on ubuntu 20.04 and created short instruction: https://github.com/syfds/soundy#installation-on-ubuntu-tested-on-ubuntu-2004. The dependencies are clear and shouldn't break something but you can try the compilation in virtual box to avoid unexpected problems. The app looks little bit weird on ubuntu (I develop it for elementary os) but all implemented functions should work. Before you try the app you have to find out the ip address of your speaker, I wrote here a small instruction: https://github.com/syfds/soundy#how-to

Update:

Easy installation with debian package:

1. https://github.com/syfds/soundy/releases/tag/v0.2.0

2. download the com.github.syfds*.deb file

3. install with sudo apt install com.github.syfds.soundy.*.deb

4. uninstall with sudo apt remove com.github.syfds.soundy

or in case you are using elementary os you can get the app on https://appcenter.elementary.io (Soundy)

To multi room audio: sounds interesting, my plan is to release the app in elementary app center and get some feedback from community whether such app is interesting. I will need a second speaker to develop and test the feature. Can you recommend me a device? Probably the cheapest one will be Soundtouch 10 (I have already one)

You can create an issue in github or write me here if you need support!

Best wishes

Sergej

Re: Linux support for Bose Soundtouch App

Please count me in with those wishing to have Linux support for Soundtouch clients.

Me: I have two Soundtouch10's installed in my dining room as a Stereo pair that I use on 5Ghz WiFi only. I like that I can control them with my WIN10, iPhone, MacPro and iPad devices. As a Amazon Prime customer I almost exclusively stream Amazon Prime channels (commercial free) but have often wished that Bose would add support for Tunein's commercial free subscription option.

Like many others, I'm moving my older WIN running hardware over to Linux. (eventually I'll be a Microsoft free household). As we all know, one of the missing features of Linux is a Soundtouch client. While the work a round for me is to simply use a Apple product to control my Stereo pair (after all I usually just turn it on/off and adjust the volume depending on if I'm in the same room or not) I support the idea of a Linux client.

I really like my little Soundtouch10 speakers. They have surprisingly decent sound for what they are and once setup and deployed all they need is a AC power connection.

Re: Linux support for Bose Soundtouch App

I've added the auto-discovery feature like suggested by @schneekluth : https://github.com/syfds/soundy/releases/tag/v0.2.0
feel free to try it out and give feedback! 😉

Re: Linux support for Bose Soundtouch App

Hey syfds! Thanks a lot, i really appreciate your tool. Two remarks:
- It took me some time to recognize the icon (bottom left) to switch speakers. Not very intuitive for me (but working fine). Suggestion: what about replacing the speaker name in the top bar with a dropdown menu?

- I get a lot of segmentation faults when using the "network address" window. Never on the first click, but when clicking the second or third or fifth time on "test connection" or "save". No obvious pattern and I have no idea what's causing the segfault.
