ST20 Laptop Connection

Is it possible to connect a laptop to a sound touch 20 speaker without using the soundtouch or soundtouchC app? I just want to use the ST20 as a speaker. I can connect either with an ethernet cable via a router or using a wireless connection. I have been attempting both but have failed miserably.

Re: ST20 Laptop Connection

Hey TouchyDave,

Welcome to the Bose Community.

If you wanted to bypass the SoundTouch app, you'd only be able to use AirPlay or Spotify Connect to stream on the speaker. You'd have to connect the speaker via ethernet to allow it to show on your network.

If you connect via Wi-Fi, you'd need to complete that setup through the SoundTouch app.

Depending on the series of SoundTouch 20 you have, you may or may not have Bluetooth support. If you do, you can also connect through that method.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Re: ST20 Laptop Connection

Thanks for your help.

I have tried connecting with ethernet. No joy.

Previously I had connected a mobile by bluetooth.

I cleared the bluetooth pairings.

Now I can't re-pair.

The Phone can see the ST20 but, when I try to pair, the phone prompts for a passcode.

I don't have a passcode for the ST20.

This is starting to feel like a very expensive mistake.

It looks like I have updated the soundtouch app which has resulted in a very restrictive regime,

imposed on my speaker, by the National Socialists at Bose. Thanks.
