Acording to the phone rep, it is a mechanical malfunction - Bose will email me the UPS prepaid shipping label;

I will have the top part of the unit shipped, to be examined, and after Bose has dealt with whatever issue is

present, the unit will be shipped back, with a new one year warranty included. Thankyou for reaching out to me

about this; it will be good to have it back again in working condition.
