System Manufacture Date

Could you reveal how to decipher the date of manufacture on a Bose Wave Radio / CD from the serial number?  I assume the manufacture date is contained within the serial number in some form or fashion.  Presumably it's not necessary to publish the actual serial number here in the Forum to determine that information.  The model is AWRC1G.  Thank you.

Hi Travasaurus,

Thanks for the question.

You can find the manufacture date of your system by the four digits after the letter "C" in the serial number.  The first digit is the year (3 being 2003), and the next three digits are the day of the year (215 being the 215th day of the year, or August 3rd).

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Best,

Brandon

Re: System Manufacture Date

Hi pete,

Thanks for the question.

Which systems do you have?  The last three numbers are supposed to be the day of the year, so it can't go any higher than 365.

Re: System Manufacture Date

Appreciate your response. Have 3 Bose units now.

1. white color.Model awr1-1w, c-9538. growls, screeches. cannot getto stop.maybe good for some parts.

2.grey color. model awrcc1. sn..033975c53396029ac.  great device!

3. grey color. model awr1-1w.   c9704, sn..awr10h(?)6085589. latest added when #1 above went crazy. display weak, dim. suggested procedure does not improve brightness.

does your San Marcos store do any repair at all?

Re: System Manufacture Date

Hi pete,

Thank you for the follow up.

The serial numbers for the first and third system predate the DOM code that we use, so there is no way of seeing when they were made.  I can say that the AWR1-1W was manufactured between 1997 and 2000.

Our retail stores do not offer repair services; you would need to call customer support.

Let us know if you have any questions!

Best,

Brandon

Re: System Manufacture Date

How do you know if a date code of 7156 is 2007 or 2017? Thanks

Re: System Manufacture Date

Hello Loui,

Thank you for reaching out to us and welcome to the community.

The following will be how to decode the date of manufacture: Digits 8 through 11 are the date of manufacture (DOM)

  1. Digit 8 identifies the last digit of the year the item was made.
  2. Digits 9 through 11 identify the day of the year the item was made.
  3. For example 6117 = the 117th day of 2016

I hope this was helpful

kind regards,

Prince_O

Re: System Manufacture Date

Prince O,

Thanks for your quick reply. I know the coding, but just not which decade the number in position 8 indicates. Is a “7” in this location 2007 or 2017. Thanks again.
