Recent updates to the Alexa app now prevent you from adding or editing routines if do not have a compatible device. I setup my "Good Morning" routine back in November, but can no longer edit it. I presume you can still do this if you have a standard Alexa device (or one compatible with routines). I expect you could still use the routine on the Bose device but would then get the "not supported on this device" message. I think this message is all handled by Amazon so is out of the control of Bose. What Bose CAN do is implement the required service that makes the device support Alexa routines. (I have mentioned the specific service earlier in this thread). Bose just appear to be very slow with getting on with it, and have yet to give any indication if they are currently working on it. ... I'm in a similar situation with my Samsung TV.   For me the Soundbar 700 sounds great (and that is without the bass module at this time), but I have been unable to get Dolby Digital either from the Tos-link or HDMI.   I purchased an HDMI switch with built in "audio extractor" which was supposed to support Dolby digital, but I sent it stright back when I found that the Infra-red remote conflicted with my Humax Freesat box.   But even if that worked, I was unable to determine if the box was sending a Dolby Digital signal because the Soundbar does not show this information anywhere.   So for now I have given up, and am waiting for Bose to bring an update which gives me the information that I need to be able to test out any more devices. ... This is a very good point because some companies have been known to push out automatic updates which degrade performance in some way.  Someone skeptical might say a company would do this trigger upgrade sales!  Obviously I doubt Bose would ever do this. But if the ability exists and the customer has no power to prevent it, then abuse of that position can be very appealing for a short term profit gain.   Even without deliberate malice, a bad update could leave us stuck waiting for a fix.   I think we have the ability to rollback to an older firmware using the USB method (but I've not tried this, and I'm not sure if it allows old versions to be installed).   But even then, this is pointless if the system automatically updates again.  So I agree wholeheartedly that we should be able to disable automatic updates.   Bose.  Please can you confirm if devices will accept an older firmware via the USB installation method? My Soundbar 700 still has not updated yet.  I have the updated IOS and Android apps.  Have powered the device off and on but there is no indication of an update here in the UK.   The firmware remains at 2.1.7.   I have manually downloaded the 2.1.10 (Dec 12) firmware for archival, so the firmware package is available from here.  But what mechanism does the Soundbar use to check if updates are available?  If someone can supply a URL for me to test, then I can make sure it is accessible and contains the correct values here in the UK. ... This happened again tonight.   Telling Alexa to play a song, it came on really loud and it was difficult to turn down using the remote as it was not responding.  It eventually stopped playing and now the Soundbar is frozen, the remote is not responding to any input.   The app can browse for songs, but is not able to play anything on the Soundbar.   Selecting Standby from the app does nothing.   I was able to download the logs from /logread, and have kept these if you would like me to send them. ... I had this issue on the Soundbar 700.   I'm not exactly sure what triggered the issue.   It might have been because I had Amazon household configured (where two or more Amazon accounts are linked together).    It might have also occured after performing a full reset of the Soundbar or switching Amazon accounts, which caused some duplicate devices to be defined in Alexa.   I eventually fixed it by carefully doing a full reset.   See this solution:-   https://community.bose.com/t5/Smart-Home/Soundbar-700-Alexa-started-only-playing-one-song-from-a-playlist/m-p/156239#M821 ... Thanks Joel,   A similar problem happened this evening.  I will just note the symptoms of tonight's issue for reference:-   My wife turned the TV on, the volume came on extremely loud (odd because we do not have it up that loud usually).   Our normal listening volume is around 30. She used the remote to turn it down, and said that it was odd because the TV showed that the volume was only on 20 (the TV is plugged in via ARC and was displaying the soundbar volume via HDMI-CEC).  She was using the remote to turn the volume down and was saying it feels like it is stuck again. Then the soundbar started producing a broken sound, like a crackle.   We changed the channel and it was still loud, eventually the sound turned down.   At this point I decided it was time to factory reset, which I have just completed.   I will report back later in the week to see how it goes now the reset has been performed.   I have reset this soundbar so many times now, but this will have been the first time since it upgraded to the November 14th firmware. ... There is a known issue with the Soundbar 700 where Alexa regularly stops responding when connected via an ethernet cable (about once per day).   For me it was much more stable when connected via WiFi.   It would still not wake up after an internet outage (which I had once for 30 minutes), after this the Soundbar needed a reboot to recover, but WiFi was generally much more stable.   There was no mention of a fix for this in the Nov 14th firmware release, and I have tested connecting via ethernet, and already have had the Alexa stop responding issue.   I have even had a complete Soundbar freeze (not just Alexa) with the latest firmware, which I have just started a separate thread for.   So if you are connected via ethernet, it might be worth doing a factory reset and setting it up again using WiFi (until Bose fix the ethernet issue). ... There are two ways to connect the Soundbar 700:-   1. Optical - There is no mechanism for the Soundbar to inform the TV of the volume level via optical 2. HDMI Arc - The soundbar can communicate the volume level to the TV via HDMI-CEC   My 2011 Samsung TV (D7000) supports HDMI-CEC (in Samsung speak this is known as Anynet+), and this shows the soundbar volume (0 - 100) when connected via HDMI Arc.   Although it works, the Samsung implementation is very poor on this TV as the huge volume icon flashes on and off every time the volume is changed a single step.   If you are connected via HDMI Arc, check you have HDMI-CEC fully enabled on your TV, and if your TV still does not show the volume, it would be best to speak to your TV manufacturer.   I was going to say that it was not possible for Bose to overlay something on the screen via HDMI, but it appears the HDMI-CEC spec does include the ability to send text to the screen via an OSD (On Screen Display) message.   It is limited to 13 characters though.   There is probably an issue with TV compatibility, I expect many TVs do not have this implemented, which might be why I have not seen this used by any devices.   So it may be possible, but if used, you would want to have the ability to toggle it on or off, in case there are issues with certain TVs. ... Hi @AAA Yes, I have run ADAPTiQ everytime I have reinitialized the soundbar (so that must be about 10 times now!).  I have a 2011 Samsung TV and know that it does not send 5.1 through ARC or Optical when the TV connected to an HDMI source.   This is a common problem, I have also heard someone else complain about this with a 2015 TV, so it might still be a common issue.   I'm thinking of getting a new TV, but it is difficult to get confirmation if Dolby Digital / DTS will be passed-through.   Without any ability to prove the format that the Soundbar is receiving, I would have a difficult time taking a TV back if they sold it to me based on stating that it would support this. ...
