Welcome to the club, Phillip! I had to shell out ~$90 for the repair. They fix replace most of the parts and it looked like new again. However, they didn’t specify what part of hardware or software was malfunctioning. It could have been as simple as change the date in the software to 20 years or 30 years. Since all of the devices are dying after 10 years or so, it has to do with a rogue code inserted in the software. Perhaps not in the entire line of production, may be some limited batches. Bose can repair the devices and send back but it doesn’t absolve them of their responsibility. They must tell what’s wrong that all devices are experiencing similar problem around the same time. They are simple devices and don’t have life limited parts like aircraft engines. Audio players easily functions for 20-30 years, especially when they are just lying around at one place and not being moved like mobile devices. So here is some update: I got my Bose system back after the repair. It probably can came back within 10 days of it being received at Bose repair center. The person I had spoken to for repair had given me 20% discount on repair charge of $119 plus free shipping label and free return shipping. The system looks like new (from outside as well as inside by taking a peek). There is an accompanying letter which says that the following components were replaced: 1) CD drive, Slot Load, 12 CM Disc 2) Housing, WMS III, GRP, Serv 3) Slab Assy, WMS, DSP, RoHS, 03.02.01, SVCE Now I don’t understand most of the above parts but I feel it is like completely new system. WMS III above should stand for wave music system. Housing should be the outer body. DSP should be the display (since, after repair, it also had the plastic sticker, as if it is a new part). Slab assy should stand for Slab assembly. Anyways, I am happy with the condition after repair. Greg - I think people posting here have more brain than what you would give them credit for. A similar problem is affecting large number of users and all you have is unplug and restart (and everybody here has tried it tens of times). I called them and even spoke to supervisor of the customer care rep I spoke to. He offered me 25% discount on $119 service fee. He said we have sold millions of these systems and these problems are too few. In short, his message was “we don’t care. Pay up or thank you”. We all have done typical troubleshooting (which is not a whole lot to be honest and most lame troubleshooting one would ever hear) - switching off, taking out AUX wires, letting it in off state for an hour, switching back again etc. Bose knows they sneaked in a rogue code that suddenly these systems are breaking down. ... Exactly same issue - says “please wait” on pressing any button on the remote and it doesn’t work for AM/FM/CD/Aux. in short, it doesn’t work any more. I think it is a software big (related to some date perhaps). I am saying so because I have experienced this issue within last few days! ... View more
