F1's with B2 Subs?

Currently using 2 L1 M2's with 2 B2 Subs.  Looking at picking up 2 F1's for outdoor gigs.  Can I run my 2 B2 Subs with the two F1's.   I have been poking around on this Forum but haven't seen this particular question.  Thanks.

I wouldn't the B2s are voiced differently and will not keep up with the 812. If you're running bass heavy music, even the F1s will run out of steam running with the 812s.

Hi FSBOI,

Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. Thanks for the interesting question.

The B2 bass modules are part of the L1 integrated system. They were engineered to work with an L1 Model II or L1 Model 1S. They are not self-contained powered subwoofers like the F1 Subwoofer.

Your B2 bass modules are passive (no built-in amplifier). The L1 Model II Power Stand provides

  1. A crossover so the B2 receives frequencies from 40-200 Hz
  2. EQualization to fine-tune the sound to optimize the features of the B2
  3. Power: 250 watts RMS

In order to use the B2 without the L1 Model II Power Stand you need to provide the three features above.  You can use a Bose PackLite A1 amplifier to provide the power, but you would have to use a third-party device to replace the crossover and EQ.

The F1 Subwoofer has the same three features built-in except that

  1. The crossover is set lower (closer to 40-100 Hz)
  2. EQualization emphasizes the frequencies below 100 Hz
  3. Power: 1000 watts RMS

Two B2s weigh approximately 80 pounds. A single F1 Subwoofer weighs 55 pounds.

Back to your question.

The F1 Model 812s are louder than the L1 Model IIs at the edge of the stage. The L1 Model II systems have a lower drop-off in volume over distance than the F1 Model 812s.  You can use the F1 Model 812s to volume in front of the stage and add the L1 systems to extend the coverage at a large outdoor show.

Can I run my 2 B2 Subs with the two F1's.

Yes, If you add power amps, crossover, and EQ, but the F1 Subwoofer will be a better match for the F1 Model 812.

As an experiment, you can run the F1 Model 812 LINE OUT to the L1 Model II Power Stand with the B2 connected and no Cylindrical Radiator®.  It's not practical, but it will give you the best performance from the B2 and you can decide if it's worth pursuing.

I have been poking around on this Forum but haven't seen this particular question.  Thanks.

Now you have.

Re: F1's with B2 Subs?

Thank you for these thoughtful replies.  Exactly what I needed to know.  Actually, it sounds like we would be just fine staying with our L1 M2's and 2 B2's for an outdoor venue like a winery.  We are playing Jazz and Pop tunes for listening, not so much for dancing, so it is not important necessarily to push it loud up front.  I am just looking at the overall handling and sound distribution.  Bose Gear is amazing and versatile.  We get comments all the time as to how well you can hear everything 500 feet from the stage.  I have learned in this forum in a short time the main differences between the L1  and F1 systems and how to get the most out of both.   Thanks again!
