Firmware 1.6.3 Announcement and discussion

Available today - November 15, 2017

There are two updates:

  • Bose Hear app version 1.2.4 (Android devices only, not Apple)
  • Hearphones firmware update 1.6.3

You need to install Bose Hear app version 1.2.2 (IOS) or 1.2.4 (Android) to update your Hearphones to firmware version 1.6.3.

For best results, please follow these steps to ensure your Hearphones stay connected to the phone or tablet running the Bose Hear app.

  • Charge your Hearphones to 100% before you install updates
  • Disconnect your Hearphones from the charger, make sure it is on, and place it beside your phone or tablet.
  • Use the Bose Hear app Settings to set auto off to NEVER. You can put it back to your preferred setting after the update.
  • Keep the Bose Hear app in the foreground on your phone or tablet. It's okay if it's running in the background but if you close it or force-quit this update will have to start over when you start the app again.
  • Keep your Hearphones beside the phone or tablet during the update. This can take up to an hour in total. We're doing this to maintain a good connection. Otherwise, you could walk out of range or encounter interference that can break the connection and force the process to restart.
  • Check back after an hour to see if the update has completed.

To get the latest version of Bose Hear, go to the App Store or Google Play and search for Bose Hear.  Depending on the settings on your device, the Bose Hear app my update automatically. Otherwise, you must choose to install it.

When you open the updated Bose Hear app, it will automatically download firmware version 1.6.3.  Once that is downloaded you can update your Hearphones.

Bose Hear App 1.2.4 has no visible changes, and it addresses only minor bugs.

Firmware 1.6.3

Release notes:

  1. Optimized feedback monitoring.
  2. Fixes an audible pop that can be heard when music is stopped from a streaming device. This was more noticeable on android devices.
  3. Fixes an issue where the headset would not power off while charging.
  4. Fixes a rare situation where there could be no audio while on a phone call.

Please reply to this post if you have any question about these updates.

Thank you.

Re: Firmware 1.6.3 is available

I just got my Hearphones today.  I played with them for about an hour before doing the update.  I’m not completely sure, but I think that in the previous version, the bluetooth and world boost settings were independent.  I am almost positive that I set them independently and that I went looking for a Bluetooth boost setting after I noticed that it was only affecting the World sound from the main menu.  Now they are linked.  Not bad, but I’d rather have them separate if possible.  Update itself went smoothly.

Re: Firmware 1.6.3 is available

Hi @lkingston

Congratulations on getting your Hearphones. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do mine.

I just double checked. The Bluetooth boost and World Volume settings are (still) independent.

Please tell me what's happening for you that indicates they are linked?  I'll try to replicate that here.

Thanks,

ST

Re: Firmware 1.6.3 is available

My mistake.  I thought there were separate EQ boost controls for the mic and streaming Bluetooth audio streams, but there never were.

Re: Firmware 1.6.3 is available

Hi Everybody,

Have you noticed a change in the way your Hearphones respond in very loud environments?

I'm in a VERY loud setting, and my Hearphones are much better at handling loud cymbal crashes and snare drum hits. No more loud cracking but if I listen for it, I can hear a little bit of break up/distortion. But it's much more tolerable than then the cracking noise I used to hear in the same setting.

What about you? Have you noticed a difference?

Re: Firmware 1.6.3 is available

ST,

I noticed that with very sharp, sudden sounds, the Hearphones "popped" or "crackled" previously, even with the highest NC on (World Volume at 50). It was really bad when I was grinding metal with the Hearphones on. However this morning, I was stacking wood and breaking sticks with WV at 0, and the "crack" of the breaking stick would cause the Hearphones to pop. I did not try it would WV at -50. So, maybe it is better, but I still noticed it, at least at WV of 0.

Re: Firmware 1.6.3 Announcement and discussion

Hmm, it seems I'm unable to get this update... My Android app is on version 1.2.4, but the Settings screen claims "Your product is up-to-date" even though the firmware version is still 1.4.1 according to Product Info. It's been like this for several days now. Any idea what's wrong or how I can fix it? Thanks!

Yes, have noticed a difference.  With earlier version I would frequently get a distinct "pop"  with a sudden loud event (i.e. clapping, something slammed on a counter).    Since the update this issue has been dramatically less frequent.
